....of new born kittens
was woken at 7.30 this morn by the neighbour whos cat was expecting
what a palarva
the neighbours mother who is quite ill saw the cat giving birth and unfortunatly came over with one of her attacks and collapsed...the son came rushing down stairs and see his mother on the floor,he turned round and see also the cat giving birth
suprisingly..he's a big fella...but he also decided to come over all funny and proceeded to throw up in a panic
to cut a long story short, the cat has decided to reject her kittens.
so far even since this morning she has only had two kittens that we know of..for all we know she may have given birth to others but if she has we dont know where they are.
we phoned the vet but all they told us to do was get some animal milk from the petshop and try them with that...which they seem to take too
after several attempts to reunite cat with kittens its for deffo that the mother is not interested
can any offer any advice on hand rearing kittens cause we aint got a clue

Phone the RSPCA or cats protection league who should be able to advise. Failing that phone the vets first thing tomorrow.

One big problem for new-born kittens, especially at this time of year, is fleas. A bad enough infestation can literally suck the kitten dry :shock:

Frontline spray can be used on kittens from two days old. Just spray some on some cotton wool and rub them all over with it. You'll need to see a vet to get it though, you can't just buy it. And it is fairly expensive, around £15 quid for the bottle, but one treatment lasts for around 3 moths, so one bottle goes a long way.

Have been looking through the net for advice but they don't always give the practical advice that maybe someone having gone through same situation might have :D

Been feeding on demand, which pet shop suggested we should do.

any other advice, suggestions that might help these little fellas will be greatly received.

Another thought...............you'll need to simulate the washing that a mother would do to the kittens, paying special attention to the stomach....the motion and stimulation on the mother's tongue on the stomach area is what triggers the kittens to pass urine..and they need to pee! The mother will actually lick that as it's passed, but again, damp cotton wool will do the job.
