Strapping to a bike trailer

Might have to pick up broken bike from repairers so I've borrowed a mates bike trailer. Its got a narrow gulley blocked at the front where the bike goes and thats about it, nothing to hold it up and no way of using side stand.

My mate says just put a strap across the handlebars somehow and load up front forks pulling bike in to front stop, thats all I need. Sounds way dodgy to me. Any better ideas?

Edit: It looks a bit like this -

Strap across the top yolk with the forks as compressed as you can get them. Another strap across the seat unit as well, susention compressed as above. Should be fine as the AA have done it to my bike before.

Thanks for that. Sounds like it is a two person job then?

Yeah but get one of the repair fellas to give you a hand. With all the straps tight and the suspention compressed it won't move around.

Just make sure the trailer as attached properly though!

That mistake has been done before!

Got the bike moved fine, thanks for the help.
Mates trailer was a bit ropey, short ramp meant bike grounded out on it, had to deflate rear tyre to fit in gulley, needed 3 lads at each end to get on and off but we made it home ok. :)
Repair bloke lashed front brake lever to handle bar so brake was on, seemed like a good idea.

Do you think I should paint his trailer before giving it back? :)
