Convoy to AR14
I know Job is thinking of joining the EAR convoy up to the border and I had the same idea. So I thought it'd be a good idea to ask and see who else might join us so we can all go up and meet up as a group.
Thoughts? |
Re: Convoy to AR14
Count me in…it will be a epic ride there and back, anyone thought of getting a trailer or van ?.
And what’s the logistics. |
Re: Convoy to AR14
If I go I'll be taking my van but I'm not sure if I will be able to take the time out of work.
|
Convoy to AR14
Once we have a couple more names we'll organise logistics.
|
Re: Convoy to AR14
Considering I have never been that far north (ever), if I do manage it I would like to make a grand tour of Scotland, being so close and not visiting would be rude.
Any takers ?. |

Re: Convoy to AR14
If I go to the AR it will be combined with a Scotland trip (or the weather is looking spectacularly good).
My main aim is to do a European trip this year though so depends when I get time off for that and other bike related logistics. |
Re: Convoy to AR14
Again, if I go It will the the beginning/end of a week in scotland. Was so awesome last year, my dad and i want to go back.
|
Re: Convoy to AR14
It is unlikely i'll be able to attend. The dates are too close to the European trips I have planned.
|
Re: Convoy to AR14
I might be up for it, haven't quite decided when I'm going up though, might go for more than just the weekend to fit more in whilst up there.
|
Re: Convoy to AR14
If anyone is want a twisty route give me a shout I'll happily knock one up from Yorkshire upwards.
Here is the one for EAR revised route from Norwich up to the campsite |
Re: Convoy to AR14
Also guys, if you want to suggest a meeting point to join the EAR based on the above route then fire away, ideally for us it would be point B at around midday to make is simpler to organise...depends on your route I guess
|
Re: Convoy to AR14
If you promise to wait for us, I'm sure we could arrange something.
We may also be able to coordinate with the south and west surfers to meet up at the same point. |
Re: Convoy to AR14
Yay, I was on nights that weekend but managed to book holiday today.....
TFFT. |

Re: Convoy to AR14
Yeah, I am up for this, but with the caveat that I have no idea what any of my plans are (except one) or what my life/schedule will be like from the end of February. I have the touring machine that is a Tiger too. I may have to link this in with some work too.

Re: Convoy to AR14
I'll tentatively say yes.
But as the wheels can come of family N Tec very rapidly.I won't know until hours before. Even then it might be in the car with the bike on a trailer. |
Convoy to AR14
Ntec, I think you'll be going from Norwich not somewhere in Hampshire.

So probably do A12 - I'm guessing your London area possibly do that. But have sat nav will travel ;) |
Convoy to AR14
Your best bet would be to meet the EAR en-route. It's about a 3 hour ride over to Hampshire to then ride 6 hours up to jock land.
|
Re: Convoy to AR14
Yep. Roger that

Re: Convoy to AR14
Surely you'd be taking the M3 / A3 to the M25 then round to the M1 or the A1 (http://goo.gl/maps/rkDbZ)? Where as the Norwich lot will surely be taking one of the A roads in a vaguely North West direction (Something like this http://goo.gl/maps/YuZPg) to meet the A1 much further up?
In which case meeting someone from Essex near the start of the A1 (or the M1 if you insist) makes much more sense than him riding half of the way on his own or in the wrong direction. P.S. I suspect neither of the two Tony's will feel the need to travel down to Hampshire to meet you before setting off. |
Convoy to AR14
It's all subject to alteration.
|
Convoy to AR14
No, it's all subject to nobody wanting to ride unnecessary miles before they do 300 miles north!
|
Re: Convoy to AR14
Well I will wave at you all at about junction 14 A1 :)
|
Re: Convoy to AR14
I wasn't being funny. Just pointing out that Essex is much nearer to where you'd be passing than where the EAR lot are going to be.
Bit rude in my mind to tell NTECUK to go meet them. |
Re: Convoy to AR14
M3 + A34 + M40 (briefly) + A43 + M1 = Job done
no faffing about, probably about 330'ish miles. Don't bother going out of your way down this way to meet people, meet closer up the country otherwise you'll be covering unnecessary miles and you're all going to be ****ed by 300 miles anyway so you'll just want to get there. |

Re: Convoy to AR14
M40, M42 and M6. M4 goes to bristol.
Depends on traffic really, the only fickle bit about going towards the M1 is the A43 as its loads of rounderbouts and dual carriageway. M42 and onto M6 has about 10-15 miles of 50mph road works at the minute and for the next few months so it usually backs it up worse than usual. The M6 could possibly be quieter as the traffic thins out after manchester. either way your not going to want to fanny about going out of your way with that kind of millage. |
Re: Convoy to AR14
Where you are that route makes a bit more sense Gav. Couple of miles shorter going Alton -> Newbury and then your route but of the 4 people who have said yes in this thread 3 of them live pretty much on the west side of the M25. I figured they deserved a stop given its only 8 miles longer that way.
If you really want to see some nicer roads I'd wait until you get up north (A68 looks like a decent road to get off the motorway at Darlington), simply because the decent roads down South are going to be there when you get home. |
Re: Convoy to AR14
i was posting that as the way i would go but my point really is to go the most direct route straight there.

Re: Convoy to AR14
Well I was thinking more like an M25 services initial meet up for us GMers and then ride up to meet the EARs.
As we are all going to be using the M25 anyway it'd be silly not to meet there, I wasn't suggesting we meet in Alton. The point I was trying to make to NTEC was that its 3 hours here to then go another 6 north. We can quite easily add in a stop at J1 of the A1 if any of the Essex lot fancy it. Might be an idea to ask the EARs to move the meeting point up to where the M1 joins on so we're not going out of our way too much. |
Re: Convoy to AR14
If it would make sense to move the meeting point from the EAR route further north near Doncaster so you can meet the A1 from the M18 we can do that I'm sure, just need to find a suitable spot for lunch near there...should move the stop back by 20 to 30 mins max.
We're all EARs :) |
Re: Convoy to AR14
Or all just chill and ignore it for 6 months and then work some details once you know who is actually going, what the weather's likely to be like and chances are that by then we'd have churned a few bikes and members anyway.
|
Re: Convoy to AR14
Prior planning and preparation something something something...
|
Re: Convoy to AR14
Fair enough, it seemed fairly obvious to me that Ntech wouldn't have gone 150 miles out of his way and would have met up on route. But maybe I missed something.
The A1 is less **** to drive than the M1 (honestly the dullest road I've driven, worse than the M6 between Manchester and Birmingham). But I'm still leaving it up to the weather gods to decide whether I'm going so don't mind me. |

Convoy to AR14
Not sure how I'll be fixed yet so this years AR is a maybe. Might not know till the week before at the rate I'm going at work.
If I do go will try and hook up with you lot or poss some from my area, though I think most from s&w are more north so will likely be a case of meeting closer to the GM anyway. If I do go I will try and find a b&b so I can make the journey in comfort and with a hope that my back won't break. |
