A reminder of summer.

Just a little reminder of what a warm summer evening looks like. Soon, soon.....

Ha, that's what I keep telling myself :)

Is that Barmouth?

Re: A reminder of summer.

It certainly is. I love sitting up on the veranda area of Davey Jones Locker with a mug of tea on a sunny day, with the bike parked opposite, looking at the view of the harbour and the mountains, and watching the world go by.

Right that's it. I'm going to climb into a large, straw filled cardboard box, pull the lid shut, and set the alarm clock for April!

Might have to try and get out there. My problem is, I love the road from Betws-y-Coed down through Blaenau to Porthmadog / Criccieth too much, I can't resist going that way if I've got the time :D

Another one of the summer. There's a brilliant piece of road here, with a lovely series of quick bends above the sea and hugging the side of the mountain. Who can tell me where it is? Should be easy enough if you look....

Spotted it :) That looks very nice, I'm adding that to my rides list for this year!

garynortheast 05-03-18 08:13 AM

Re: A reminder of summer.

There's a cracking loop I do to take it in.
Start at Llanfair Caereinion>Mallwyd>Aberangell>Aberllefenni>Corris> Pantperthog>
Aberdyfi>Tywyn>Fairbourne>(over the railway bridge to)Abermaw(and tea at Davy Jones Locker)>Dolgellau>Cross Foxes>Mallwyd and then home.

When you get to Y Bermo, after your tea you have the option of extending the ride by heading up the coast to Harlech and on into either Penllyn or Snowdonia.

Roll on summer!

Cheers, it's on the list :)

Once the warmer weather is here, I'll organise a ride out around some of these roads.

Too easy :-)

Lovely bit of road, looking forwards to sorting the bike and ourselves out so we can ride this year.

More sunny roads. Actually taken on a warm October day in 2013. Where is it then?

Ohh thats a lot tougher! I'm gonna need a clue.

My first two thoughts are wrong after checking on Google Streetview.

I reckon somewhere around Ffestiniog?

garynortheast 09-03-18 06:17 PM

Re: A reminder of summer.

Nope! A little further north-west.

Gonna need another clue. Don't recognise this at all.

It's a little north west of Nantlle Mike.

Wow well spotted!

Don't know that road all that well actually, ridden it once and driven only a dozen times probably. Looks like I need to venture further over.

I need to get back out to Wales with the bike too. Don't think I've ever been on that road.

That lump of rock is very distinctive I think, looks like a dragons back!

Certainly distinctive, do I get bonus points for naming it ? Clogwynygarreg, clog wyny garreg, give me a few years and I might even remember how to pronounce it every now and again.

Re: A reminder of summer.

I think it translates as the "white bell rock" or the "rock of the white bell". Mike?

I missed your clue earlier, it's due east of Nantlle though. my name is Stuart.

Oops, sorry about the duff directions! Mike is Luckypants and another Welsh speaker. I was after him to confirm or correct the translation.

Sorry, nothing quite so pretty Gary. "Clogwyn" = cliff, "y carreg" = the stone. Stonecliff is probably a closer translation.

Thanks Mike. The benefits of being a first language Welsh speaker rather than, as in my case, a rather poor learner!

Luckypants 14-03-18 12:50 PM

Re: A reminder of summer.

Not a first language speaker Gary. I'm a bit of a halfway house, my Dad was first language Welsh and I spoke Welsh with friends at school but my mum was English so first language was English. After moving back to Wales in 2001, I took lessons to get me back into Welsh speaking, but not a massive call for it in the village.

I try to keep up, but my fluency is gone.

garynortheast 14-03-18 10:17 PM

Re: A reminder of summer.

I have a similar problem here Mike. Our village has almost emptied of Welsh speakers and filled up with a large number of retired incomers who make no effort even with place names. There are very few of us with any Welsh language here now. Two original households and my daughters are the only properly fluent speakers here. Makes me very sad as it's so much more than just a language.

Here's an oldie from back in June 2009 when I was still riding my lovely little 400 Gixer. Any guesses on location?
