In the Spring...
 

... you get the delightful chirping of the birds. In the Autumn you get the less delightful chirping of the smoke and CO alarms. Most of these are of the ventriloquist genus - able to send their chirp throughout the house with total masking of their location, only stopping when you're stood directly underneath them and able to sense when you move off to resume their chirps.
