It is with great sadness the time has come for the much loved SV to go. I am now just getting too many aches and pains to allow me to ride the way that I enjoy. I have been trying to keep going (bar risers etc) but due to the wonderful ageing process and an impressive collection of injuries over the years I find that after a short length of time I get so uncomfortable that it spoils the ride and actually becomes a little dangerous as the discomfort starts to effect concentration. But I ain't finished yet, I have just ordered a "motorised arm chair" also known as a Burgman 400. I have owned one before and they really are the canine danglies with regard to comfort and useability. So let me finish by reiterating that the SV was one of the best bikes that I have owned regardless of price or type and this forum has been helpful and amusing, thanks. Ta Ta !

Sorry to hear that Geoff and sorry to see you go. I know what you mean about ageing although it sounds like you are ahead of me.

Sid Squid has a Burgman 400 and in spite of doing his best, he can't kill it. He actually rates it pretty highly.

Thanks for that. Should be fine. A few years ago I had a Burgman and a conventional bike and surprisingly the bike hardly got used.

Nothing wrong with a Burgman, I used to work with a guy who rode an R6, his dad stopped riding his Burgman and passed it over to him. He was a bit embarrassed to turn up to work on it at first, but he did admit it went pretty well and the weather protection / fuel consumption / storage was welcome. Hope you will visit us from time to time to tell us how you are getting on with it.

I can make a start with that already, I had a 400 Burgman s few years ago and thought it was wonderful. I then bought a new 650 thinking "more would be better" wrong, I hated it. It was a huge very heavy lump which effectively isolated you from the riding experience. Only kept it 3 months. The Yanks love them.

Are you going for the new slimline version or the older bulkier one?
Is the new one even in dealers yet?

Nice, will be looking forward to reading your thoughts on it.
From the pictures I've seen it looks pretty good, more upright seating position than the old one but not as much underseat storage.

I understand this and I think that you have made a good choice, good luck with the new bike.

This is something that I face now, even after heavily modifying my bike. It breaks my heart to think about selling my SV and moving onto something easier to ride, but until that day comes, I am sticking with the SV. The next mod I am thinking about is moving the clutch lever to the left foot and fitting a thumb controlled air shifter, due to arthritis in my left hand.

I really wish that I had listened to the Doctor when he told me "it" would not just affect my eyesight! ;-) :smt044
