Nightmare rides

Itchy boots (Noraly) is back in Africa, Nigeria to be precise. They used to drive on the left but now drive on the right - see if you can tell:

I'm also following Marcus, a German guy riding a Zero electric bike. Heading eventually to New Zealand but currently in Pakistan. He's hooked up with a Brit dad and his son (in a Mercedes camper) and is getting frustrated because they cannot go anywhere without a police escort (armed with AK47)

He is normally a very patient, optimistic person but Pakistan is grinding him down - he had fewer problems in Iran.

I have just read 'Cycling home from Siberia' by Rob Lilwall. It was an interesting and entertaining read, although I do wonder if he had a perverse death wish. Starting out in near winter in Siberia then cycling through China, Tibet, Japan, Australia, Afghanistan and Iran before heading to London and home, mainly on his own. Sooner him than me!

I've worked in Nigeria and it's an interesting place. We paid a local company to take care of our people and us westerners weren't allowed out without our local minders/drivers.

Armed guards aren't as effective as you might think. We had a mini-bus hijacked despite having an armed guard on board. The attackers put several rounds into the bus then forced the driver and guard out of the vehicle. Fortunately, there were no passengers on board at the time.

I've not been to Pakistan, but I understand the there are serious security concerns in some regions.
