How easy is it to fit different types of fairings?
 

Hi

I've smashed up my fairings over the last couple of years and they're pretty much totalled now :(

So I'm on the hunt for some new fairings. I've seen quite a few with different bike fairings on like; Triumph 675, fireblade, Aprilla, GSXR, etc.

Anyone had any experience on how easy these are to fit?
I think my old ones are M1 style and use the standard SV mounting brackets and are therefore quite simple to fit.

Any advice most welcome

we've done the gixxer and ducati fairings and they aren't too bad if your handy with the tools and have access to bracket materials.

If you have a race front subframe its even easier with the ability to bend the mounting points.

The ducati ones are tight around the clip-ons so need hefty mods to allow the necessary clearance.

As andrew says the ARD ones allegedly use standard mounts.

I'd just like to bump this.

I'm part way through converting my road bike into a minitwin. The only bits I need to buy are fairings.

I've spent days trawling through posts and can't seem to get a straight answer on what is the easiest kit to put on an SV pointy.

The built-for-purpose kits from BB and ARD etc are all quite pricey, so I'm looking for an off the shelf kit. GSXR fairings are an option, even if they are a bit wide, but how easy are they to fit to standard mounts? Which model/year?

The Daytona looks like a nice option but I'm struggling to find any fitting information.

Someone mentioned an RSV4 kit, are they easy to fit? They look the tits!

The GSXR fairings 600/750 k4/k5 are about the easiest. Because they are wide and you have plenty of room for the clip ons. and to clear the wide radiators of the K3/K4 pointy.
Can be used with the standard clock bracket but you'll need some brackets making to find the other fixing points.
And when I say brackets, these can simply be shaped strips of metal.

The daytona ones seem to get mixed reviews with some having to cut the fairings to clear the clip ons correctly and others seem to "go straight on" but I have no personal experience.

ANY fairing kit you add will require extra little bits on your part to make them fit. (Maybe not the the ARD / BB ones as they can be bought with fitting kits) so best to just get on and learn. Its not difficult, just requires some thought on occasions!

One other tricky bit is exhaust clearance, I cut a long hole in my bellypan and then ballooned it out with fibreglass to give the exhaust correct clearance so that is another thing to bear in mind.

RSV4 do look nice but again I don't know how easy they are, I think Sarah of Jordans's motorcycles has seen plenty so might be able to advise. She is often on the Facebook minitwin group.

Ive just fitted rsv fairings to my supertwin. I bought the ses front subframe for rsv fairings and basically just had to drill 2 holes on the nose cone and make 2 small brackets to hold belly ban on and thats it. I bought the ricambi weiss ones great quality and quick delivery, only problem was I had to fibreglass a small strip on at back of the belly pan to raise it to 50mm. Great price as well

Thanks for the detailed response. As a fellow owner of a K3 Pointy reg'd in 2004, I've had a look at your blog post on the build, very nice work! What height of jack up kit did you use?
