2021...
...off to a roaring start  :
https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-h...-idUSKBN29Q0WT I think I'll take a nap, could someone wake me in 2022? :) Meanwhile, a 1994 song that seems partly relevant today. Lost for Words, Pink Floyd, from The Division Bell https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPwucFar9kM |
Re: 2021...
I'm keeping fingers crossed about the vaccine efficacy for 2021, but I'm not holding my breath.
The govt and advisers have been insisting there is evidence for a 90% odd efficacy with one dose, but I've trawled both the Pfizer and the AZ reports and can't see it, they are both saying numbers in the 50-60% range for one dose (after 21 or 28days), and Israel are apparently now indicating numbers like 35%. I sincerely hope it isn't one of the stupid over-optimistic wishful thinking blusters we have become used to over the last year. If we really do get numbers in the realms of 50% or so then potentially the infection rate could carry on little affected for a long time, the most significant effect will probably be from the weather as seen last spring. If you look into the AZ info https://www.thelancet.com/journals/l...661-1/fulltext you'll see that not only was the trial size relatively small, but in the UK for example it was 84% aged between 18-55, 64% were women, and the people were predominantly white. The biggest risk sector, however, appears to be BAME, male, over 70. Is it only me, or does it seem a remarkable coincidence that the new variants causing concern apparently originated in the UK, South Africa, and Brazil while the Astra Zeneca trials were carried out in ........... the UK, South Africa, and Brazil? Stranger coincidences have happened, haven't they? 2021 will be fine, don't worry, be happy. |

<puts down spoon of Bat Soup>
It could be a coincidence about trials and the new variant in the same places as the virus may have found hosts with the antibodies and mutated further. |

I do recall that much of the lyric is backward looking and somewhat bleaker than the track title might suggest. However: "There's a hunger still unsatisfied / Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon" I remain optimistic that we'll have some fun again later this year. If I were to wear a tin foil hat, I'd point out that Pfizer have a presence in Sandwich Kent creating life changing medicines for patients. https://www.pfizer.co.uk/our-locations

A bit, yes. It doesn't give a warm reassuring feeling that this particular vaccine will end the virus problem. Sent from an S20 using Tapatalk with that kin cr4p blocked |
