Bikes to be made quieter
Apparently according to today’s MCN the maximum noise limit for bikes is going to be lowered from 80db to 74db with police being able to confiscate any bike louder than 74db.
How do the measure the noise? Is it at tick over or full revs? oops typo |
Will probably be at a set rpm, i'd guess around 5k.
I was just cracking open my bike with the rene straight through on, it sounds better than anything i've ever heard. I love the noise more every day and i've had the can on 6 months, it wouldn't be the same without it. |
Well I've never heared that one before

Insurance for my Sv with standard can = £170
Insurance with my Rene's = £670 Why? I think you know the answer! Wouldn't do without them, they sound ace and according to some, look great too! 8) The fact so many chavs in their Novas get away with loud exhausts, should hopefully bode well for us, or is this just another way to perscute bikers yet again. We should act now (helps us be noticed after all - it's all about safety) as it's only a proposal by some outdated politician who probably hasn't had any fun since WWII. He blatently dyes his hair too! |
Bollox that is

I cannot see that working at all. Harley Davisons must be noisier than that with straight pipes, they will not change , nor will I :D

to check the sound output a sound meter is set up thus
the microphone is 1 metre away from the exhaust exit and slightly more into the road as it were the bike is revved to half its redline rpm this sound is measured not sure but if i remember rightly they do it 3 times and hold it for 10 seconds then give it a minute and redo the test |
Even if this were ture, they'd be hard pushed to retroactively bring this in on 'old' pipes (ie those fitted before the bill). Can you imagine if someone had paid £1K for a nice road legal full system, only to be told they had to take it off?
