Caught a McLaren on my GSX yesterday

I suppose, in the spirit of full disclosure, I should add it was stopped at a railway crossing. It was just sat there emitting vast quantities of heat rearwards and a loudish burble noise. Which McLaren was it? Well, it was an orange/bronze colour if that helps.

When the barrier went up it took off making a wailing noise exactly unlike the sound my Yaris makes.

My friend, on his BSA Goldstar 650, decided to compare his bike's acceleration to the McLaren and for the first millisecond it looked pretty even but then, with a weird trick of perspective, the McLaren's acceleration seemed more akin to a top-end sportbike as it dwindled to a dot. Very brave I thought given the pot-holed nature of the road we were on.

Who would have thought that a car costing more money than my house and having more horsepower than the last 10 (?) bikes I've owned (combined) would be so quick? It was pretty though.

In spring last year I rode to Llyn Tegid at Bala, pulled into the lake car park and there were over a dozen McLarens parked up, must have been an owner's club meet or similar. Quite a sight.

In terms of mid-range bike vs car acceleration, have you seen this? Quite a fun video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQ9FlON7EtU

I pulled up next to one of those McLaren's at some lights a few years back.

It was summer and the driver had the roof off. So I leaned over and suggested "Race to the next lights mate?". "Na, you'll probably beat me" came the reply.

I was on my Grom.

We both had a giggle and drove off sensibly...
