Ride for early 2017

Right, let's try this again.

Who's up for a rideout/meetup over here in Wales? What days are best for folks? I can generally manage week days or weekends. Is anyone likely to be able to manage a ride at short notice if, for instance, the weather forecast is good.

I'm getting cabin fever and, while I happily ride on my own, it'd be nice to meet up with a few other orgers for a few miles, and coffee/cake!

Was planning on putting bike back on road in March after oil change at end of next month so would be up for something then

Ok, sounds good. I'm hoping to get a ride in for fun rather than just work and errands before then as well. Weather watching!

I'll apologise now if the weather takes a turn for the worse!

Itchy boots so have just ordered the service stuff and will put back on the road probably next weekend now B-)

So if we get nice enough weather anytime after I'm in for weekends

Great stuff. You on for a short notice ride? If the weather forecast on a Friday is good I could be tempted to go out the following day.
Anyone else?

Re: Ride for early 2017

So currently next weekend isnt looking good but long range forecast suggests 25th March may be an ok day. After a quick blast on Saturday to collect a set cowl have real itchy boots to get some miles under the tyres so if anyone fancies it I will be keeping a close watch on that weather forecast.

I've still got the front end off the bike at the moment, should have it all back together again by the end of the week though. We'll see how the weather looks as the week progresses.

I've got that to do before mine goes for MOT. Not looking likely she'll get much use this year either! :(

That's a shame Mike. We'll have to try for at least one meetup/rideout.

Front end is all back on now. Did around 60 miles on fairly local roads this afternoon before the rain set in. All in the name of testing that it works properly! :p

Am thinking of heading towards Wrexham from Liverpool then heading across towards Bala to finish at Shell Island bit of an enjoy some scenery and roads and a trip down memory lane if that crosses anyone's path or if anyone fancies joining me anywhere along the way.

I'll have to see what happens. Saturdays can be a bit tricky for me.

Its only as the Sunday that week is Mothers Day and I want to enjoy my bike for the rest of the year :smt068

Open for other rides. If no ones about I may head to the lakes instead just want to get out a bit and experience some new roads

Re: Ride for early 2017

Go on then, I'll go for the 25th. I'll meet you in Bala. What time are you aiming for? I could sort a few routes out if you like? How are you with narrow lanes and small mountain roads?

Anyone else joining us? Mike, are you on the road currently?

My bike has been in storage for a year while me moved etc. Brought it home to the new garage before winter and found it has developed a badly leaking fork seal. Not had time to fix, but judging by the amount of oil that has seeped out I'd rather not ride it until fixed. Finding time has been an issue.

I'm also probably a bit too large around the middle to fit my biking clothing! :nomore: But that's another issue.

Thats the route I was looking at but happy to take advice from anyone more experienced in the area. Looking to leave about 9 so Bala for around 11 ok?

Been fine on country and moutain roads in 4 wheel vehicles of various shapes and sizes from Fiat Uno to Daf 16 seat minibus over the last 20 odd years but only had my bike license a little under 18 months and didn't get any really decent rides in last year

I ride within my limits and happy to try anything as long as you don't get annoyed with a newbie if I am a little slower in some areas ;)

That's a shame on both counts Mike! We'll have to try and get a few border patrol rides sorted this year. Maybe one later this year for you?

Don't worry about speed, I'm out for a ride not a race!

Col, are you up for joining us?

Had been hoping to get out with a friend this afternoon. We were going to take my girls with us, they've been looking forward to getting out for a ride. The weather is so crap though, that we've abandoned the idea. :(

A friend is coming with me as well, so three of us. We're setting off early from here with the intention of getting breakfast in Barmouth at around 9.30.

Early ride done was a pleasure to meet up with Gary and one of his mates today for some fantastic roads in North Wales. Covered all sorts from silky smooth wide sweeping roads to tiny gravelly twisty tracks and seen some beautiful scenery too. Managed to get this shot of the 3 bikes with the snow covered hills at one of our stops.

Gary knows some fantastic roads and routes in this area and highly recommend a ride/meet if you get the opportunity.

Thanks again Gary!

Sorry I missed this, I'm not on here too much these days.

Still learning the roads around North Wales, be good to meet up. Had a trip to snowdon yesterday via A548 virtually traffic free.

Tapatalk now set for notifications :-)

I'm based near Chester BTW

Andy and Jon at the junction of the A4212 and B4391. I had 250 miles on the clock by the time I got home.

It was good to meet you Andy. Thanks for your company on the ride. We were really very blessed with the weather. We must do it again.

Ok, looks like it's on for this Sunday. Will have to be afternoon though. Andy, Grant, which way will you come into Wales? If you come in past Oswestry and Meifod I could meet you on the way. Otherwise, how does 2.15 at Davy Jones Locker in Barmouth sound?

Grant66 04-05-17 11:16 AM

Re: Ride for early 2017

I'm at the east side of Chester which is a little out of the way from Liverpool. Can meet near Oswestry.

Re: Ride for early 2017

Route takes me past Chester down the A483 to near Oswestry which is fine for me or can go A494 past Bala into Barmouth whichever is easiest

Grant66 04-05-17 11:53 AM

Re: Ride for early 2017

If your going down the A494, try the B5105 at Ruthin down to the A5 turn left then the B4501 down to Bala. Lot quieter and more fun route.

I'd prefer to go down the A483 and learn some different routes, if that's ok.

aj76 04-05-17 12:02 PM

Re: Ride for early 2017

no problem, will probably head out a bit early and find my way across some different routes as did A494 to meet Gary last time and used to do the A483 all the time with work so will meet at Barmouth at 14:15.

Ok Gary, where and what time in Oswestry? Petrol station on the A5 roundabout?

Re: Ride for early 2017

I was thinking a bit further on from Oswestry, as that's 20 miles in the wrong direction for me. Stay on the A483 as far as Llynclys, turn right onto the A495 and follow it for about 14 miles through Llansantffraid and Meifod. About three mile after Meifod is the Tanhouse Inn on the right. We'll meet you in the carpark there at about 1.30 if you're ok with that?

Grant66 04-05-17 07:29 PM

Re: Ride for early 2017

I'll be there at 1:30. I'll be the one on a red MT07 😁
