Fitting a USB power socket

Hi all,

I've got a 12V USB socket that I plan to fit to my '08MY SV650S. The unit has 2 x 2.1A USB ports and I have found a suitable position in the fairing to cut out the required 28mm hole.

I think that the simplest fitting option would be to run cables directly to and from the battery, with an in-line fuse (5A? Can anyone advise here, too?) and a switch to turn off power when not in use, although I could probably leave it permanently live.

The alternative would be to wire it to the ignition switch, which would also turn off power when the key is out. If I choose that option, can anyone tell me which wire/wires I need to tap in to?

Thanks.

See if Bibio still has any of his legendary boxes of Gizmology - vouched for by many on here, easy to fit (well, Bibs fitted mine but it looked easy!) and an absolute bargain. They are brilliant and allow you to wire up a number of accessories that will switch off with the ignition.

Thanks, Sputnik. I'll contact the fella and ask what options might work.

I have just done a search (sorry, Admin) and found a similar question so feel free to delete this thread.

the cheep and dodgy way of doing it is to tap into the sidelight but if something goes wrong then it could potentially burn out the wiring of the sidelight.

Best not do cheap, then. Directly to the battery would at least be simple and also mean nothing else is affected.
