So had a nice bit of glass impale my front tyre this morning.

AA man just fitted an external mushroom plug, refilled it with air, and said get it fixed within 100 miles. (he suggested i get one of these for underseat: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stop-Go-Mo...sAAOSwAA5Z3kOR)


What are your experiences with these plug kits? i just rode home and took the car/bus(urgh..), as not 100% on external fit puncture repairs...


Annoyingly the winter bike is still out of commission unless parts turn up today (not holding out hope there...)

I got the stop and go but with 4 Co2 capsules, about £39 and takes up less room. Those compressors draw a bit of power and may not give the 'rush' of gas to pop the tyre bead back on the rim if it has displaced.

bad luck on the puncture :-(

i had skoda emergency 'slime' in my car front tyre for over a year with no problems and its easier to use than string kits. you just take the valve core out pour the stuff in put core back in and pump tyre up.

i have a string kit on the bike at all times but never used it so cant comment on that but have seen vids of how to use them and it looks like a faf. i also have a core remover valve cap on the rear wheel as i have had cores come loose.

since i know how good the 'slime' is i'm thinking of changing over to one of those on the bike, its an emergency repair so its only to get home.

I've not used it though so can't comment yet. The CO2 cannisters are the same threaded ones used for bicycle trye CO2 inflaters too though, for anyone who cycles, they can double up and be useful in a saddle bag too if you buy a box.

That is the one I got, I did a practice run on a worn out tyre just to get the hang of it (I did not believe that the mushroom would squeeze down the tube from the applicator you screw down with the allen key).
One thing I did was put a bit more silicone grease in the plastic zip-top bag with the 'mushrooms' as there did not seem a lot in there and I was concerned about it drying out a bit, also made sure I had a small pair of pliers in the toolkit to pull any offending nail / screw etc out of tyre.

I have not used it in anger yet, but am happy just knowing it is under the seat and I would not be completely un-prepared for a puncture.

I once worked with a bloke who covered a few miles and he swore by the 'slime' - used to put it in as soon as he had new bike / new tyres.

personally use a dynaplug kit with a co2 charger and must say that its performed flawlessly in all 5 situations.

Anyone ever used Ultraseal? I've read some good things about it but have no experience myself. I don't know how big a hole the stuff can actually seal.

Had a few of the liquid sealer harden into a blob and cause balance issues.
Obviously I don't know what make it was.
