Gilles Tooling Handlebar Conversion 2016

First-time poster... so Hi everyone.

We bought my Mrs an Sv650N (08 model) for her first big bike.

She wanted something sporty, so we were going to go with the S model. But she didn't like the front lights *shrugs*. So we went with the N. Of course, the N is much more upright, and she'd like sportier ergo's. So I've bought some Gilles rearsets I found on offer, and am looking at making the bars a little more sporty.

Swapping to the S front end looks like it would be quite a bit of effort.

I found these:

Something like that would be perfect.
They clearly state they're for the new 2016 model. But I wondered if anyone had tried putting them on an earlier bike? From the pictures, they look like they'd fit the N model.

But I can't find them here in the UK yet, and I don't wanna get something imported if it's not going to fit.

Anyone any clues?

Cheers all

I have them on my 2002 Curvy S model, although mine has a GSXR front end. But that only means I have to use the clamp size for the GSXR forks, otherwise everything else is what you'd use.

Plenty of adjustment to suit your needs, very well made & for me, kept the clip on look of my faired version.

These are the only thing I could get to work within the confines of the curvy fairing

You have the ones in the link? Not the Gilles Variobars (which are very different)?

ooh no, sorry I have the vario bars

Gilles did do normal type clipons and you can use the vario bars without the risers

So the Gilles vario bars will just fit straight on to the naked pointy without changing cables etc? They're a bit pricey, but I guess you pay for quality.

Anything else I need to know?
If there's nothing else I need to worry about fiddling with (cables, triple clamps, instrument brackets, switch placement etc) we may just go with vario bars for the ease.

the n cables/hoses are longer but not really a problem, S model clip ons just clamp direct to fork stanchion so i cant figure where the problem there is?

From what i've read the S model clipon's interfere with the N model triple clamp.

Some confusion....
In 2016 there were two models of SV on the UK market, the pointy S and the (tarted up Gladius) AL7 (a 2017 model)

The Gilles bars are for the Pointy S, there's no way on earth they'll fit an AL7 and probably not on a nekkid anything with a standard top yoke with normal handlebar clamps.
There's no threaded holes in the yoke for them to bolt into.
I reckon what you does need is a pair of proper olde-fashioned ace bars.

If you do a Google image search for "ace bars" there's hunners more to choose from.

Or "jota bars" which are adjustable ace bars.

I don't know if it's possible with the SV650 but and old,"Brit Bike" trick was to spin the present bars over and reverse them so they pointed down?

If possible that might give a usable,"Drop"?

Ah I didn't realise there were two models of SV on the uk market. Thanks for clearing that up.

But every picture of an SV I can find using these bar's (LU-B-SV650A) is a naked:

There are no threaded holes in the top yoke on older nakeds... but there are threaded holes in the handlebar clamps. Hence I guessed that to fit them on the newer model you remove the top of the handle bar clamps and thread them in to those holes. If that were the case I thought it may be possible they could also fit the older naked top yokes?
