AR14 Convoy East Cost
Right folks
To help anyone wanting people to ride up with on the East coast. |
Re: AR14 Convoy East Cost
Thanks Andrew
Well based on the advice on the last leg route starting just before Darlington heading up to the camp site here's what I am suggesting from Norwich, so based on others coming up from the South East we can adapt this to include those people with another meeting point between point A and B...obvious Norwich as a waypoint ain't gonna work but this route is a starting point for a bigger one covering all the requirements off once we know what they are. http://i781.photobucket.com/albums/y...psd281bdfd.png Click to open google maps Point B is a services point which I figure would be a good place for people to join the convoy but we really need to know who is heading up from the south west and how far a route needs establishing from, then we can figure how to join the dots and build up a nice convoy properly :) If we can use google for planning this it would be best, we can then take google routes through Tyre and create what is needed for peoples satnavs etc... So.....speak up and lets get planning |

Re: AR14 Convoy East Cost
Is there a good straight route suitable for car and trailer?
|
Re: AR14 Convoy East Cost
Nice boring roads....of course, just use the sat nav
|
Re: AR14 Convoy East Cost
As much as sat navigation never let and one down ;)
A1, Scotch corner then? Oh should I bring spare oil for the pre ride check???? |

I'm bringing the Strom. The trailer and oil is not for me.

Re: AR14 Convoy East Cost
Might be able to borrow a twin bike trailer if the other bod wants to trailer it up and down.
One bike on the trailer makes it a bit uneasy |
Re: AR14 Convoy East Cost
I should add I am heading up on the Friday....

Re: AR14 Convoy East Cost
Thanks to NTEC's Biker's Britain guide I've knocked up this alternative route...adds 50 miles on but wow! Seriously tempted even if it's 8 1/2 hours

So.......anyone else fancy making a proper trip of it...meet at Peterborough if you're no coming from Norfolk? I'll be heading to Manchester on the way back, to stop over with Family, then I'll hit the peaks on the way back :) |
Re: AR14 Convoy East Cost
Post the route up Mark, but I think I'll be doing the boring A1 straight up, just to get there a bit quicker for a bit more of a rest before the ride out.
Here's my itinerary from Thursday Thursday -Liverpool - Home (4 wheels) Fri - Home - AR14 site (SV) Sat - AR rideout (Sv) Sun - AR14 - home (Sv) Its a lit of miles in a few days, hence my wanting to go the direct (but boring) way |
Re: AR14 Convoy East Cost
If I can get some acupuncture on the Thursday I might try the interesting route
|

Re: AR14 Convoy East Cost
Right update from me. Because I've been a complete divvy with the dates of my training, I will be riding to AR14 on Friday from Liverpool. It saves me driving home late on the Thursday night & then riding from Ipswich to the site on the Friday.
I'll make sure Paul know this |

what meeting point are you thinking of |
Re: AR14 Convoy East Cost
Somewhere near point B on either map I posted (post 2 / post 17) would not put either of us out of our way assuming we can get the timing right, but I am not sure on services around that way...alternatively we could meet somewhere closer to home, say Thetford...when I have more time at the weekend I'll do a little digging unless you can make any suggestions for places?

Re: AR14 Convoy East Cost
You going to stop for petrol in Peterborough?
If you have a point there ill tag on the end. Yes im going to risk my knee |
Re: AR14 Convoy East Cost
Good man, I'll try and figure out where in Peterborough at the weekend, might make more sense for us all to meet there to be honest...
@Paul, you okay meeting in Peterborough instead? Is there a McD's etc next to a petrol station anywhere do you know? I'll do some digging in a few days anyway... |

Just had a good look and I think we would be better meeting somewhere like Wisbech, we'll get onto the A1 via the A17 from there, it's less of a detour for me and for you too. There's a Petrol station and a Morrisons supermarket on the A1101 so if we want to get some bits before heading on up north we can, here's the map link My A1 based route so far: linky Point C is the Wisbech meet I'm suggesting, point D the McD's and petrol stop to meet others heading north Open to suggestions though :) Martin, you prefer a more direct route like this considering your knee? I've discounted the other twistier route on the basis that it would be just about okay if I were on my mine not having to consider others (maybe...) but it's a lot more to do (2 hours more) and we have a long weekend ahead of it... btw, maybe heading up on the SM-T yet....need to get a quote to extend my annual mileage on the rocket, done much more miles than I anticipated and I figure they'll royally screw me on adding some more as I get a good deal on the initial policy... |
