broken key
I know I don't have an SV any more, so mod's please move this elsewhere if need be. but my I bent my key in my 2004 cbr600rr's fuel tank whilst filling up.... :( and I've been quoted what I consider to be a ridiculous amount by my local 'stealer' it has Honda's HISS system so they say even if I get a key cut somewhere else it still won't work because of the programming or something or other. is this correct? is there anyway around this?
thanks for any help and advice. |
Re: broken key
yes the new key needs programmed. this can sometimes be done via the ignition but usually requires a machine. sometimes there are removable transponder chips on the key fob.

Re: broken key
I had similar with getting a Spare car key cut.Luckily my MOT guy knew a small local non dealer garage that made one for £60 compared with over £150 elsewhere.
Ring some local small independent bike garages/shops and see if they know anything. HTH :) |
Re: broken key
If the chip isnt transferrable you could fix the old key (minus the metal bit of course) somewhere hidden on the bike and, assuming its a standard type, just get a new key cut. You would lose the security afforded by the transponder but, if you get several cut, need never worry about the problems of losing the key......

Re: broken key
Or just put the remains of the old key on the ring with the new key?

Re: broken key
Dealer is wrong.
All you need to do is get the right key blank, get it cut and transfer the transponder. Total cost probably under £15. I really get cheesed off with dealerso knowingly(more than probable) trying to fleece folks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yk21gcxxcCs Don't forget to glue the cover after transfering(as mentioned in vid) transponder. |

I have also just tried this technique of removing said chip from the key and the "chip" itself has broken a little bit. do you know if this will affect it's then being put into a bank key? |
