Snetterton 300 - 13th July

Just booked in the inters for 13th July at Snetterton with No Limits.

Booked a training day with NemoMoto, ex-CSS coach and now freelance. Say hello if you are about :)

I booked this today in the novice group. Not ridden there before but I suspect the lack of power will show on those long straights...

I'll look out for you.

You riding an SV? The old track was mostly about the speed but not so much now. It is a great track though and you should enjoy it :)

Re: Snetterton 300 - 13th July

Yep, I'll be on a tatty silver SK3 with lights and stock can, I should be easy to spot quietly going backwards on the straights!

Yes, but round the corners the Sv is more than capable.

I've embarrassed a few bigger bikes there, especially where the rider isn't capable of using the horsepower, most just use it on the straights, but anyone can do that.

Its a great track

I was a bit tentative on this session as a guy had fallen off in front of me in the previous session, which was a bit unnerving,

Yeah it will be fine - one thing I like about the SV is that if I pass someone on a sports bike I'm the better rider, but when they pass me it's because their bike is faster!

Indeed

Re: Snetterton 300 - 13th July

I've erm err kind of erm accidentally sort of kind of by mistake just bought a blade. So I might be a bit quicker on the straights, but will be embarrassed by the SVs on the bends. Or I might be swearing loudly in the paddock and kicking it when I find out why it was cheap, 200 miles from home and wishing I'd taken the sv!

Probably not with the bt023s it came on, "sports tourer" printed on the sidewalls doesn't inspire confidence but I've not got the budget to replace them yet. I'm sure they'll be fine at the speed I go round corners.

BT 23 are quite ok.

Balky001 03-07-15 07:36 PM

Re: Snetterton 300 - 13th July

I had BT023 at Silverstone & Snetterton on a CBR600F - they were pretty good. I got them as I wanted a road tyre that could do some trackand they used them at Ron Haslam on the CBR600RR and blades.

Re: Snetterton 300 - 13th July

Sounds like they should be OK then. I like Bridgestones and have 016s on my SV, I'll just have to remember that I've got double the power and a bit less grip than I'm used to.

I did a track day on my Blade with sports touring tyres

Do check the tyre age and condition though. Just come back from Brno and someone bought cheap tyres which were 5 years old and he had real problems with the bike. Changed tyres and no issues at all. Tyres is one area you can't budget on if on track

I got a set of Bridgestone t30's on my speed triple which is my everyday bike they are the new version of 023 and they are awesome.
Not sure what to stick on the sv track bike yet!

It's not a bloody fashion show!

Re: Snetterton 300 - 13th July

L3nny's 400 has got me nervous about whether the blade will break down so I've done the sensible thing and booked a hire van so I can take the sv as well. This should guarantee that the blade runs perfectly. It also comes with added browny points as I can get a few bits the other half wants from Ikea on Sunday.

Re: Snetterton 300 - 13th July

Ha, don't blame me!

Is it a 929 you have? That's got FI so your carbs aren't going to fall apart like on my bike.

JonSV 05-07-15 06:32 AM

Re: Snetterton 300 - 13th July

Yep it's a 929, and it will run perfectly :riding:

I wouldn't be overly worried about the tyres not being up to the job or suiting the bike. Ron Haslam's race school used the T30 (the replacement for the 023) on their bikes. Here's avideo of him using the BT-023 when that came out:

There's a whole lot of people reckon you need properly sticky tyres to do track days but I used to grind the pegs on my ZX6R out using Diablo stradas which are a fair bit older tech than the 023. If they're in decent nick they'll be fine.

Well that weather forecast went downhill since yesterday! See you tomorrow with waterproofs, I'll be on the blade with black race plastics.

Re: Snetterton 300 - 13th July

I don't do wet track riding so you'll probably find me sat in the garages all day.

Re: Snetterton 300 - 13th July

Ah, wet UK track days, don't you just love them.

I can see why most of the TD riders I meet on Euro TDs don't bother with the UK, so hit and miss.

Lenny, put the kettle on and I'll pop over for a cuppa ;)

I think I'll move to Almeria :D

Anyway off now as staying nearby so see you guys tomorrow. Black GSXR, same leathers as my profile pic :D

Re: Snetterton 300 - 13th July

Rode half way there, stopped for fuel, was freezing cold and soaking wet so turned around and noped all the way home.

Hope you guys have a good day.

Re: Snetterton 300 - 13th July

Shame - the first 2 sessions were dry! I was just startling to get used to the bike and the track (first time on both) when it rained again, then stayed wet until mid afternoon when I left. Did a couple of wet sessions but didn't enjoy them much.

Roll on autumn when there'll still be spaces late enough to check the forecast before booking...

L3nny 13-07-15 10:38 PM

Re: Snetterton 300 - 13th July

I bet you were glad of the sports touring tyres in the rain :)

I'd have been fine if I were in a van or had a trailer, or even had some waterproofs, if it's wet I normally wear textiles but that's no use on track. Leathers still haven't dried out!

Getting a trailer is now a priority!
