What spark plug socket?

So I went to change the plugs on my 99 SV however when I looked in the tool box I only had a huge spark plug socket, God knows why as I must have used my 10mm thread one when I changed the plugs on the car.

So I bought a new "Draper" one. Fits the new plug perfectly so I thought fantastic I'll get on and change them.
So I take the bike apart and get to the point where I want to take the old plugs out but alas the new bloody sockets is too fat to fit in the bloody head.

So my question to those of you who do your own maintenance is where did you get your plug socket from... I'm really hoping one of you says halfords or something simple like that

you need a thin wall type preferably magnetic. halfords sell the thin wall type. TBH its rare that a new bike plug socket wont fit.

i have been through a few and the ones with the rubber insert at the top are fekin carp. ooohhh and dont use a torque wrench on plugs unless you have a low range type. as with anything that has a thread use your fingers to thread it on first till you hit the washer.

Don't you have one under your pillion seat? That's where I got mine from ...

Don't worry mate in all my years working on motors I've never once torqued up spark plugs, you're absolutely right though the rubber top ones are totally useless I don't think I've ever had one that has actually gripped it.

Thanks for that though I shall try halfords

Daktulos you are correct there is one in there but I tend to only ever touch those tools if I really need to when I'm out and about

If you've got the original one from the bike's toolkit then it's your easiest bet.

Got mine from Halfords. It's the type with a T handle though, not the socket type.

This. The Suzuki one as supplied is ideal.

Ive got a T-piece style one and that's too fat to fit too. Think I'll take your advice though gents and just use the Suzuki one this year and hopefully get myself a slim one at some point

I use a Halford set, but as I show in my video, a bit of masking tape does a much better job of holding a spark plug than the rubber fitting!
