Bananaman

Bill, hope everything is ok where you are. Just been watching some pretty alarming video of the storm/hurricane to the south of you in North Carolina.

Thanks guys!

Earlier in the week we were in the forcasted 'Catastrophic Damage Zone' but thankfully the storm track has shifted further south.

Still we are likely to see minor flooding and power outages later in the weekend.
And still somewhat concerned as hurricane forecast tracks over land are often terribly inaccurate .

As always when hurricanes do come inland some unfortunate town or village will get 30 to 40 inches of rain and be wiped off the map.
I have a friend on the coast in NC who will likely lose his house and if the forecasts hold out and it could be devastating to the area in the mountains where I go on holiday.

Hoping for just a weekend of bad storms at mine.

Now back in the storm track and flood zone again.
Just bands of rain today getting the ground soaked so it will be ready to flood tomorrow when the worst of the heavy rains arrive and stay till Tuesday.

The flooding stage is just beginning even in North Carolina.
Power outages now at over a million and deaths at 11. Expecting both numbers to rise sharply in the next 48 hours.

Luckily we've been spared the wind here and still have power so far.
Hoping that continues! But trees often fall in saturated soil taking out power lines.
Stores here have re-stocked. Loads of bottled water now available everywhere.

Today everything looked really good but Sunday night to Monday night will tell the tale.

The forecast for where I live was for river flooding to the south but tonight as the heaviest rains arrive small streams are already flooding roads near me.

Fortunately I'm on top of a hill so no flooding danger to the house.
Whether I can make it to work in the morning will depend on how much rain we get tonight.
Could be up to 10 additional inches.
