twisting the wrist to the stop while upright ;)

tbh i dont get great mileage from any rear tyre and people who claim to get 8k upwards must ride like granny's on smack.

the most i have ever got from a rear is 6750 and that was a storm ultra 2. the worst was both PR4's at +-4k. my on at the moment is PR3 and its done 4k and still got loads of life.

the tyre i have hated the most was the PR2.

Re: Michelin Road 5

I got my rear tyre changed today. Still had about 2mm left at this level and had covered 8K miles. So i'd estimate there was potentially about 500ish miles left.
It means the wear rate is about 1500miles per mm, which is great considering the grip level they offer.

Front tyre has about 3mm left, so roughly an extra couple of thousand left before i get that swapped over.

About the same as my original Dunlop tyres after 8,000 miles on my 2020 SV650A ,2mm front and back. I am having a pair of new Michelin Road 5 tyres fitted front and back.

Re: Michelin Road 5

How much should a pair of Michelin Road 5 tyres for Gen3 SV650A including balancing, fitting etc cost ?

DJ123 25-08-21 06:06 PM

Re: Michelin Road 5

IIRC a set of tyres (looking online) is about £250/£260? so add £15 for loose wheel fitting and it should be circa £300 all in, may be a bit more if fitting wheels to the bike.

So £330 fitted to bike would seem about right.

Re: Michelin Road 5

sounds expensive to me, especially as the SV is only a 160(?) rear section.

This is a site i use to price up tyres, as they're always good on price and don't run on deals/discounts.

Tyres here, £250 for a set

Add on fitting, and you should not be over £300 - i'd expect to be paying £290 fitted to the bike and £280 if it was to loose wheels.

I'm £184 for a 180 fitted to a loose wheel. £130 for front 120

I thought over £300 was a bit dear but I haven't had tyres fitted for a while .
Put it another way ,how much should you expect to pay for having tyres fitted to the bike ,balancing, disposing of old tyres etc (excluding cost of actual tyres )? I thought it used to be about £20 a tyre but not sure.

Re: Michelin Road 5

£20 is about right fitted to the bike.

this all depends on where you go. you might be surprised at your local bike dealers prices. round my way the kawasaki shop is the best prices if you take in loose wheels. you have to book for on bike fitting which can be two weeks.

pay peanuts get monkeys. find a reputable fitter and stick with them. make sure that they use rim protectors, if they dont walk away and never go back. i had a brand new rim scraped coz they used a "no mark" bar without a rim protector to mount onto the machine head.

some of these mobile tyre fitters are good and they come to you, might be worth paying that little extra for the service.

I think £330 should be enough to pay for a good fitting by a reputable dealer.

I'm not sure i'd want to be paying £80 for fitting over the cost of the pair of tyres . . . .

£250 tyres,£11 delivery ,so £69 fitting for 2 tyres. Does seem a lot !
Suppose it depends how much dealer pays for tyres.

Re: Michelin Road 5

cheaper than public, and probably with rebate too on the back end.

By online and take it somewhere local for fitting. Most places will do it as a walk in, and about £20 fitted to the bike (per wheel)

Don't want to drag the a*se out of this but I suppose in my case if I bought tyres on line I would then have to take them for fitting to shop in car and then go back home for bike,26 mile round trip, then go to shop on bike for fitting. If I then had to dispose of tyres myself it would be another trip back in car to shop then trip to tip -------- maybe not worth the hassle after all unless there was a fitter nearby, but thanks for comments.

You can strap the tyres onto the bike, they're not that big! And tyre shops dispose of the old tyres for you, so no need to worry about that.

Not too sure how you would strap 2 tyres on to the bike ! In the past I have ridden with one tyre over my shoulder but I wouldn't fancy doing it now .

Not sure if the deal is still on at the moment. But Michelin often have a £30 cashback deal on when getting a pair of tyres fitted.

When I was running Power RS+ and Power GP's on my S1000R I think I only missed out on the deal once in 6 sets of tyres.

Re: Michelin Road 5

All done now for me and wallet £590 lighter for two new tyres fitted and first year 7500 mile service. Ouch.
(Incidentally ,there are some scuff marks on the nice blue rims after tyres fitted.)

Never heard of that but worth bearing in mind for the future as I seem to be going through a set of tyres each year. How does it actually work ?

Airsafari87 02-09-21 02:45 PM

Re: Michelin Road 5

You buy the tyres and pay full price.

The receipts I get from the tyre place I use are emailed to me, but if you get a paper one you can just scan it to your computer as long as it has the supplying dealers details on it.
Upload the receipt alomg with your details to the Michelin promotion website.

£30 is credited back in to your bank account after 2 or 3 weeks.

I havent used it recently so the deal may not still be on? But it is one that they keep bringing back every now and then, but its has to be on a pair of tyres and not just a single tyre.

Michelin Road 5 tyres seem ok so far after a few hundred miles.

They are a decent tyre. We run them on my Mrs curvy and they suit that bike fine, infact they are a great tyre.

When I tried them on my S1000R though inwas really indifferent about them, in the cold, wet winter / early spring months they were great. As soon as things warmed up and they could be pushed a little more I found them lacking and with unpredictable grip levels.

But for these little bikes they are spot on.
