Speeding?

Out for a ride today, on a country road with a 60MPH limit, went round a
right hander at around 70MPH and saw in the distance a policeman with
a speed gun, located just before a 30MPH limit:(

As I passed, after slowing to 30MPH, the policeman stepped out into the
road behind me, I assume to get my plate No.

I am right in hoping that they normaly stop you there and then, incase
anything is amiss.

Or do they now send you a fine in the post?

Or might they send me a letter advising me to keep within the limit?

Thanks in advance.:)

They'll send you a NIP ( notice of intended prosecution ) that'll ask you to identfy who the rider was, they have 14 days to do this ( date runs from postmark on the envelope )

Unless you were cautioned by the side of the road in which case they have 6 months to tell you what they are going to do. Once the 14 day period is up you can breathe easily

IIRC I might be wrong...

herein lies your mistake, you should have pulled up about 50m from him and just sat there, then if he decides to come get you reach down, snap off your plate and gun it past him then home asap;)

no fine: £0

new plate: £10

look on plod's face: priceless

I have often wondered if I'd get away with something like that with the Scamera Vans around here? Stopping short of it hiding the plate & riding off in the other direction!

Illegal no doubt?

or they keep an eye out and shout on the radio about the make and colour of bike, the design on your lid, your type and colour of your jacket or leathers etc...not to mention the fact that you now are obvious by your lack of number plate.

Probably, but pulling off onto a different road without exposing the back of your bike would be fine...

Depends how far away you are from home, round here has a very convenient network of farm tracks, little lanes and B roads.

How? There's always the "f### off and prove it" defense, which is likely to succeed unless you are actually on CCTV doing it.
Also in the sticks there aren't too many CCTV cameras anyway.

Ok thanks for the replies.

Didn't mention there were two policemen present. Who had ample
oppurtunity to stop me.

I remember when I was caught speeding nearly 20 years ago and the
policeman at the roadside, with the speedgun, stopped me and dealt with me there and then.

Didn't realise they would send out the fine.

(still hoping):(

Anyway, 70mph indicated is only 63mph or so, don't know if they'd even bother at that.
