sump nut or not sump nut?

 ... that is the question!

So iv done my oil change, and I have my new sump nut in hand ready to replace the old one as it was looking a bit worn. (or so I thought).

But when I went to replace it, the nut is too small!

It turns out the nut iv been removing, since I've been servicing the bike my self, isn't the sump nut at all!

But what is it??? it still drains the oil out of the bike, it's on the opposite side to the actual sump nut but its got an allen key head... oh ye and its much wider.

If you can tell me what it is I will be chuffed to bits! even better, if u can tell me where to get one I will be ecstatic! \\:D/

..AND if you have one you would like to give me ... !! :notworthy:

Thanks guys.

Matt

(oh ye and I chucked mine along with the old oil, before I checked if the replacement fitted.. :safe:)

Re: sump nut or not sump nut...?!

Rule 1, do not throw away the old part before fitting the new one.

A Suzuki dealer including those online such as robinsons foundry will be able to supply the part.

The bit you've thrown away is a blanking plate covering a hole used during machining of the cases. It's worth using the actual sump drain too . I assume engine is currently empty add they are not in the same passage and more may yet drain from the intended hole.

I suggest you haven't finished the oil change. There's a hile in the sump and the oil will drain out.

Well that was a bit silly throwing away the original one

Can you not fish it back out of wherever you've chucked it, or have you taken it to the tip now along with the oil?

You'll need a new one clearly if you can't get hold of it.

thanks for the info... the helpful and not so much ;).

I just wish I'd read it a few minutes before removing the actual sump nut all over the patio.. :smt091

Anyway, I can now move on and order a "blanking plate".

Cheers guys.
