170/60/ZR17
 

Can I put a 170/60/ZR17 on the back of my K4 instead of a 160?
What problems will I find.

What difference if any would I notice, after all it's only a cm. Plus will it look better?

I think the common consensus is that it'll effect the steering, In what way I'm not sure though...

The other thing is that the SV rear rim isnt designed to take that size tyre IIRC it'll make the tyre have a funny shape, I think it stretches the tyre when you put it on the wrong size rim or something like that.

I remember a few posts about this and I think that its not the best of ideas. I'm sure a search will discover more info.

Personally I think that the SV was designed to take a 160 rear tyre and it was designed with that in mind. Personally I'd keep looking around stu, I'm sure you can find the right size tyre for the right price.

As for looks that is in the eye of the beholder. :wink:

Back in a previous life I had a go on a CBR with an oversize rear, on that bike it looked good so I was thinking of doing the same. Riding it was decidedly dodgy though compared to my CBR600 FK that was the same. The whole thing oversteered and it lost all composure over the smallest of bumps on a corner.

I would not recommend trying an over size tyre, it may be cheaper initially but you may well screw up the handling and your riding fun.

For what it's worth, not only stick the right size on, but the right tyre type to match the front.

Bugger, I guess there's no point changing from Dunlop 220's to the best tyres Z6's and then get the wrong size to mess them up.
No one got a good word to say about 170s? - it would look better, and I thought a few of you use 65 and 70 profile on the front which is not stock.

different profile - same width though

at most basic you're going to get another 6mm of rear ride height so that'll quicken up the steering (altho possibly not in a good way)

170 is a funny size, it's probably not designed to go on a rim the size of the sv's rear (3.5"?) because it's probably meant for a larger rim it'll likely make it a more pointed profile than was intended & again make the steering potentially quicker

would you buy a 150x60 if it was cheaper? though not, so don't buy a 170x60 ;-)

most 170/60s are designed for a 5" rim with a few exceptons

generally if you want a wider rear tire, most SV riders convert the rear wheel to a CBR F3 rear that is 5" wide
