Border Patrol Weekender 2019 - chat thread.

**Edited** There's a BPW 2019 thread in the Regional Rideouts and Meetings section which is for information only. I'd be grateful if we could use just this thread for general chit chat about the weekend. Thanks.

So who'd be up for a Border Patrol weekend get together in 2019. Not thought beyond the vague notion that maybe it's time we did something like this. Just gauging interest really.

Hope this goes ahead, I need an excuse to "do" Wales

If I can get some idea of numbers over the next couple of months I'll start looking at somewhere to do an overnight. Campsite or bunkhouse I should think.

Well, there's five of us then. Camping or bunkhouse?

Bunkhouses need less luggage. Either is good for me though.

Ok, add your names to the list. I'll leave this list up for a couple of weeks and then start investigating suitable bunkhouse accommodation based on the numbers.

I'm wondering about finding somewhere that has a bunkhouse with adjacent camping space. I really like sleeping under canvas (well, not really canvas but you know what I mean!). I know at least a couple of you want bunkhouse accommodation, but could you all indicate on the list of names whether you prefer that or a tent. If there's more than just me wanting to camp I'll try and find somewhere with both facilities.

Re: 2019 - ride out with an overnight?

Ok, in order to keep costs sensible I think it's going to need to be the bunkhouse option for all of us.
This place looks pretty good and booking the whole bunkhouse for 2 nights with current numbers works out at less than £40 per person. I thought two nights because we could assemble on the Friday evening and have a full day on Saturday and most of Sunday.

If you can take a look and let me know what you think. If everyone's ok with it I'll make some enquiries.

Ok, I'll call them sometime over the next week or so. Be handy to have a rough idea of what time of the year people favour. Personally, I'd rather do this out of holiday season, maybe late June.

Late June is good with me, would their be any objections to my usual riding partner in crime joining on his CB?

I personally don't have any problem with that. If everyone else is cool with it then I'd say go for it.

Bibs, are you on for this as well then? If so, we're up to nine. The bunkhouse sleeps a max of 12. If we get many more joining I may have to look for a larger bunkhouse!

Could use the airline business model, there are always some no shows [emoji16]
Worst case is a couple on the campsite.

June's good for me too, might actually have a bike by then [emoji23]

Don't worry Bibs. I've still got my routes from a couple of years ago ( It'll be under the settee in the PC). OK till after the trough of Bowland, then hit the motorway for a bit.
Probably get a nice sunset on tyhe beach as well.

Re: 2019 - ride out with an overnight?

I'm going to try and phone the Bunkorama people today, and over the next couple of weeks I'll go and look at the place (good excuse for a ride if anyone wants to come along).
Quick summary of sleeping options there.
* 8 bunk beds in two dorms of four each, two double bed settees in the living area. If we have any more than 10 for this, some folk will need to be happy with the option of sharing a double bed settee with someone, or as Grant pointed out, there is the adjacent camping area.
* The cost of the accommodation doesn't include bedding (other than a bottom sheet and pillow I think) so you'll need either a sleeping bag or it's an extra £15 for bedding for the stay.

garynortheast 15-07-18 04:23 PM

Re: 2019 - ride out with an overnight?

Spoke today with the chap who deals with the Bunkorama bunkhouse. Just wanted to check that:
1. There is a road right up to the place and it's not a walk in job. There is tarmac right to it.
2. The camping area is close to the bunkhouse. It's just 30yds away.

I said I'd call back sometime over the next month - six weeks and go ahead with the booking once we have final numbers for the bunkhouse. I will arrange to go and look at the bunkhouse and campsite beforehand to make sure there are no hidden problems. If anyone fancies the ride over there with me, your company and opinion would be appreciated.

If anyone else comes on board once the bunkhouse places are gone, they'll be on the campsite unless they can negotiate an amicable swap with someone.

£240 for the whole bunkhouse for two nights. Any campsite pitches are extra.
Two person tent ……………………£12
Two people in camper van…….….£15
Additional adult……………………….£6

Dates - how about 21/22/23 or 28/29/30 June?

This does of course all mean that I will have to go out and find some good routes for a rideout! Pen Llŷn is a must; I have a few other locations in mind too.

Right, I need to get back to this now I'm back from my jaunt up north.

I'm going to see if I can go and take a look at the bunkhouse and campsite on either the 11th or 12th August. Anyone fancy the ride over there with me to have a look?

Ow! Working on a Sunday :(

I'll mark the Saturday down then. Late morning alright (subject to the ok from the bunkhouse owners)?

Anyone else fancy a trip to Barmouth that day?
