Clutch, gears and neutral switch help

Hi folks,

I have a 2001 SV650s, recently swapped out the engine as the last one was knackered, everything went back together and the bike ran (in neutral) great, full service done.

Front left caliper is leaking, needs a new piston so I had to put the bike in gear to move it so it didn't roll on the ramp.

Now I've got it back in my garage, issues have started. Firstly, it won't go into neutral easy anymore and the light doesn't come on either when I finally do, I've grounded the neutral light in the speedo and it works fine, tried two switchs and neither have resolved it.

Secondly, when I got it running here, the clutch plates sounded horrific (engine been sat for 5+ year) but they did engage and I can set off. They do still sound asif they're rattling around until they engage.

Just seeing if anyone has came across this, or knows a fix. I'm not an expert so my thoughts could be way off, but thinking it could potentially be the clutch plates have stuck and it needs a good 30+ min run to get them loose with the hot oil, but also unsure of this.

Cheer

Hallo Barwise and welcome to the .org.

As far as the clutch plates go, I’d suggest getting them out and doing a visual inspection. It’ll give you the chance to clean them up and dress any burrs on them too.

Thank you.

I'll get them out this weekend and give them a clean, once the brakes are sorted I'll be able to give it a run and get through the gears, just hoping this fixes the issue.
