Tyre woes
 

Typical ... lovely sunny day, get geared up for a blast and .... flat rear tyre! Found what looks like a tin rack right in between the treads. 😡 .it's only done 800 miles. Anyway .. been looking at a new pirelli angel (what's on there atm) but was also thinking about using one of the new types of 'permanent' slime type of sealants, anyone used anything like these with good results ? Would there be a problem with a decent repair having the puncture right in between the treads?
Any advice on which way to go?

Personally, having used both the slime and sticky string, I've found the latter to be the best permanent option. The alternative is to get the tyre off and have a proper repair done. Worth it if the tyre only has 800 miles on it.

The Pirelli Angel ST and the Diablo Strada before it are my favourite tyres for the SV. good in the wet or dry, great handling characteristics and a sensible price.

Bad luck! Repair? This would rather depend on your personality ie how cautious you are. The tyre industry prefers you to buy a new tyre (duh!) rather than get it repaired. Their argument being that your safety is resting on a tiny contact patch at the best of times.
Having said that, I have ridden several thousand miles on repaired tyres - a couple I repaired myself with sticky string and one that a tyre fitter repaired using a mushroom plug which is probably the best option. I'm generally a slow rider though. If you're a spirited (!) rider then I'd get a new tyre, if you're cautious or if it's just for low speed commuting then I'd go for a (professional) repair, I wouldn't use the slime.

Thanks for weighing in peeps, I pains me to change the tyre tbh with such low mileage on it, would it also be ok to repair with the puncture right in between the treads? Only asking as 99% of the videos I've seen only do a demo of the tyre being repaired on the tread areas and not in the channels??

As long as puncture is not too near edge of tyre tread area or in sidewall you should be fine

Coming late to this but I had a roofing nail in my rear tyre less than 1,000 miles after it was fitted, in the tread groove too.

Had a proper vulcanised plug done, that was 10,000 miles ago.

I've had a flat in between the treads. I put one of those BMW donuts in for a temporary fix to get me to work. About 6000 miles of hooning later, I changed it.

Get a proper repair done.
I've bought the bits to do them myself. Cost a bit more for all the tools and potions than getting someone else to do it for me. But then I had a second puncture and was quids in.

Yes, Avon Storm 3D. I really like them, excellent life and really predictable handling. I usually get around 12K out of a rear and 20K from a front.

That's riding fairly briskly, too.
