Coal mine?
I must have been asleep. We are going to open a new deep coal mine in Cumbria?
Is this why there's been a moratorium on fracking - somehow, some way or other, we'll get those fossil fuels out of the ground. If you won't let us frack, we'll dig. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cumbria-50274212 |

Germany reliant on brown coal ( lignite found in shallow mines ) which is high in sulphur and twice as high in carbon emissions than the ' deep' harder coal from deep mines.. France also will probably be phasing out nuclear and using more coal as base load fuel. All very well using renewables but they are intermittent, unreliable and any industrial country cannot base their energy supply on them.... We are a small player in the emissions field ( <2% of global emissions ) and have some of the highest energy costs around, which is why British Steel got into trouble with being competitive. |
Re: Coal mine?
So this mine is ultimately for the production of coking coal.
Do you want a steel industry? ultimately coking coal from wherever is required, far better to be home sourced! For someone with a vested interest in the continued worldwide exploitation of coal for power production (with appropriate CCS). British coal is far too valuable to burn simply for power. |
