Been To The Doctors Today
I've been feeling pretty rough all week, and couldn't physically force myself out of bed this morning to go to work, so for the first time in ages I've been to the doctors. Turns out I have a pretty nasty chest infection, so I've been put on antibiotics, Amoxicillin. Not having taken these before, I checked up on them.
What are the possible side effects of amoxicillin? Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects: fever, sore throat, and headache with a severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash; nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); diarrhea that is watery or bloody; fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms; easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness; urinating less than usual or not at all; agitation, confusion, unusual thoughts or behavior; or seizure (black-out or convulsions). Less serious side effects are more likely to occur, such as: nausea, vomiting, stomach pain; vaginal itching or discharge; headache; swollen, black, or "hairy" tongue; or thrush (white patches or inside your mouth or throat). I think I'd prefer the chest infection. WTF is 'hairy' tongue:shock: |
Re: Been To The Doctors Today
hehe, You should never read the side effects, the worst one you can possibly find is "May cause sudden death"

Re: Been To The Doctors Today
Sorry to hear your feeling groggy!
You shouldn't see any of the "seek emergency medical help" side effects unless your allergic to penicillin, if you're not sure, ask your Mum. The doctor should have asked or checked your records before prescribing. I'd be surprised TBH if you've never had amoxicillin before, its a very common antibiotic. Did you have that thick sweet yellow medicine stuff that tasted and smelt like banana flavour sweeties when you were a little kid? If you did that was amoxicilllin in an infant suspension. Leave the booze alone though unless you want to sleep right through Eastenders! ;) |
Re: Been To The Doctors Today
I was on this when my 'bit of a sniffle' turned out to be Flu with pneumonia in one lung!
Sorted me out and I didn't have any side effects... ... at least none that I noticed in addition to the ones from all the other drugs (prescription of course) that I'm on. ;) I like the ones that contradict themselves - drowsy/difficulty sleeping, nausea/increased appetite, make you mind up. :D Years ago I used to have to write those little leaflets - real pain in the proverbial when you have half a ton of information that is legally required and the manufacturer only wants to insert an iddy biddy piece of paper. Blame their packaging machines that the typeface is so weeny. ;) |
