Top Speed whilst running in???
Evening All on the knowledgable Org
Quick question, I have a brand new SV having past test yesterday. Just wandering what kinda speed people would expect during the running in period without going over 5500rpm. Am I right in saying that about 70mph ish is correct? Drew |

Re: Top Speed whilst running in???
Well the max speed the bike can do at the red line is 140MPH (i wokred it out once through gearing...)
Anyway so 140/11000=0.012727 0.1272727x5500=70MPH so there you go. :D |
Re: Top Speed whilst running in???
I'm currently running mine in and the garage told me not to use any more then 6K rpm for 600 miles. While riding I found 6th gear 5.5K rpm is 75mph and 6K is 80mph. :)

take it easy or you'll probably regret it in miles to come. I'm only 400 miles at the mo. |
Re: Top Speed whilst running in???
TBH as someone said there are many different ways to run an engine in... Some people just thrash them into life, i wouldnt advise this but i think with modern engines and modern fabrication processes there shouldnt be too many things need nursing.
So if you do accidentaly sneak above it shouldnt be catastrophic. |
Re: Top Speed whilst running in???
75 for me, but if you need to use 8k for a few seconds to pass a car, no problem.
It's more important to vary your rev range than to just ride at 5500 all day. Tight country B roads with tight bends and wee straights to get you up and down the gearbox and vary your speeds from 30 - 75mph are good for running in. Good for getting used to the bike and more interesting than going for long motorway runs at 75mph as well. |
