MS Access 2003 urgent Help Reqd

Hi all,

One for the geeks I'm afraid. Boss has knackered out departmental database. He tried to update some of the forms, opened the new and improved database then it crashed. Now when he tries to run the database or open any of the tables he gets an error msg saying to try and run the compress and repair function. When he tries to do this a similar error comes up saying it has detected a corruption in the file.

Trouble is he didn't back it up before messing around and the last copy we have is a week old.

Anyone got any ideas about how to get the info out???

Thanks,
Andy

PS I've already shouted at him for not backing it up before messing around!Bloody management!!!;)

Have you got a copy of Office 2007 installed anywhere? It seems substantially better at recovering broken stuff. I had a similar thing recently with one of our DBs which wouldn't open in 2k or 2k3 but 2k7 sorted it out.

Alternatively, use this as an excuse to write a decent front end and use a proper database engine for the data, like MS-SQL or Oracle.

Once you run the 2k7 repair on it can you return it back it 2k3 easily?

Erm, I'm not sure... I didn't convert it to 2k7, just opened it, which worked ok, and saved it. Then got 2k7 installed on the machines which needed access to it.

Ahh OK. I'm fairly hand with computers but don't know anything about Access and the boss is flapping a bit :)

Just a quick thought, probably won't work or you've tried it but you could try importing the tbls into a new db, or maybe using MSQuery, etc to try & pull the data out.
You could also use a trial of something like Advanced Access Repair.

with drummer on this. at the least import tables into a new db.

or use sql 2000 impotr/export wizards.

also, try to just import the forms etc into a new db.

basically - see what you can recover by imporing into a new access db or new sql db then work from there.

no back ups.....tsk! ;o)

Luckily our main IT dept back things up on a daily basis so we'veo nly lost todays entries which isn't too bad! He's been very appologetic :)

Thanks for all the help, I bet he backs it up more regularly now.

I can't help. But would question the wisdom of using access for any serious business application. We have banned it from our company
