Swapping the screen on a pointy S
Hi all, I had a minor indiscretion this morning involving a hill, me being weedy, not paying enough attention and a car bumper. The result is a broken screen and a lightly scratched lower fairing, at least it didn't go down on the right side :smt022
Luckily I still have the original clear screen that I got in a box of spares when I bought the bike but I have no idea how to fit it. I've removed the screen bolts (3 either side) in the past but can remember not being able to just pull it clear of the fairing as I expected to be able to. Think it was the bottom that felt attached still. Anyone that's done it before got any ideas how it comes free and I get the new one in? |
Re: Swapping the screen on a pointy S
Al, there are 6 fastners that hold on the front screen
when you remove them, remove also the 4 rubber grommets that 4 of the fastners screw into (the grommets fit through the fairing) you should then be able to remove the screen (carefully) |
Re: Swapping the screen on a pointy S
Not sure about a curvy if you have one of them, but on my pointy i just replaced my standard for a powerbronze, and it takes all of 8 or 9 mins to do, i prefer to remove the mirrors though lets you fiddle easier, remeber the two screws on either side of the top fairing as well as the allen bolts! and dont do what i did and loose a rubber grommit and spend the next 20 mins picking up every peice of crud on the garage floor looking for it lol,

Re: Swapping the screen on a pointy S
Thanks for the advice, it was finally dry enough to do it last night.

A trick with those damn grommets is to use a screw driver... Shove it into the middle and twist the grommet in or out, depending on if your taking the screen off or putting it on. Just be careful when you put the grommets back in that you don't pop them through into the fairing... Then you have the fun of removing the fairing like I did... For one lousy grommet. BAH! Good luck! Mitch |

30 mins pi55ing about trying to get them back in, stopped for a brew and searched the forums, used the rest of the hot water to soak these in and 5 mins after I went out to complete the job, I was back in enjoying another cuppa! |
