Current cold spell .........
Jeeeze, is this cold spell depressing or whit ?
Was -6 C this mornin Just looked at a wind chill chart and at -5 air temp, at 30mph it works out at -15 C :smt087 Is anyone actually commuting in these temperatures ? |
Re: Current cold spell .........
Yeh.......but in the nice cosey car. Anyone riding in this is either brave or crazy, not sure which.
Personally I know I couldn't concentrate on riding in these temperatures, and my body movements and reactions would be slower and stiffer. But I suppose, I don't have winter gear and heating grips and the like |
Re: Current cold spell .........
Its amazin the difference good winter gear makes
Dont have any heated stuff but have good gloves/boots and warm jacket & trousers etc Have been riding when there was ice forming on the mirrors and front forks and was fine warmth wise although on long motorway runs, the cold usually always creeps in |
Re: Current cold spell .........
Its not bad over here. -2C last couple of days. Freezing fog.
I have a deal with the missus ,I get the motah if its snow. (She gets chauffeur driven....................... by First Bus:p) I have only a 30min commute and the best way I find to not get too cold is to slow down. 30-35 instead of 40-45 makes a big difference, wind chill I suppose. This week have put a jumper on and changed to winter gloves (heated grips:smt055) All Gortex kit now. Used to put a bomber over my leather and a pair of joggies over my jeans when I had a 125.......and thats when it used to snow. (a lot in East Kilbride!) The cold is easy to deal with, its the condition of the roads over here that are treacherous, no ice........its the junk they put down to stop it, nasty slippy goo. By March (mentally the start of the summer for me:cheers:) my bike, with its square tyres will no longer require use of the sidestand:cool::rolleyes: I still am shocked how much grip the SV gives in these conditions from a standing start though. Finish work the day so bike gets washed, degreased, washed, taken apart , cleaned , put back together , put on the charger and put to bed for a week and a half. Right, thats got a bit of feeling back into the fingers!;) Job done.:D |
Re: Current cold spell .........
Came back from Edinburgh to home in -2 yesterday on the M8 at 70-80 mph, got home and there was ice all over the chest of my textile jacket, just spray off the road that had frozen.
I was toasty inside. T' shirt, thin fleece, textile jacket with winter lining, jeans with textile trousers and winter lining, ski socks and aqua boots, winter gloves and a cold killer round my neck. The main roads were fine, but our wee cul de sac where it hadn't been gritted was like a skating rink, i rode in slipping the clutch in first with my feet down sliding along, got off the bike, and fell over walking up the driveway!! I can't believe the amount of IDIOTS :smt013 driving along in freezing fog with no headlights on. About 70% of the cars on the road had sidelights or nothing. Only saw a few cars using their fog lights. Cars were just appearing ghost-like out of nowhere. |
Re: Current cold spell .........
I go to work in the dark and come home in the dark, the amount of folk running with just sidelights is stunning. How feckin basic is it to know if your lights are on or not? Thick ****s.
Thank christ i'm finishing today as the driving is horrendous at the mo'. Had somebody try(:smt077) and block us while filtering yesterday(very rare)........ happy feckin christmas. Followed a definite ****head this morning as well, all over the road, iced windows..... gave it big licks as soon as possible and nipped past that accident waiting to happen. We should have a "Zombie" smiley methinks.:smt045:rolleyes::D Hope nobody saw you fall over Ralphy...... "How the hell does he go a motobike when he can't even stay on his own two feet!" etc, cos thats what matters;) My SIDI rains do there job great but i might as well be wearing rollerskates off the bike:mrgreen: |
Re: Current cold spell .........
Had the car at work once in the last 3 weeks... had to bring freebie cases of beer and bottles of vodi home today :drink:
Heated grips and big thick jacket/trousers are fine for my 20 min blast to work, the recent fog is a pain though. Roads are a bit iffy just now, all the crud at the M876/Bowtrees road works just add's to the fun! Have also decided that Dunlop qualifiers are not the best choice of rubber given the nick of the roads.. way too easy to loose the front on them. Note to self.. use the Duke till i get new tires on the Blandit :smt045 |
Re: Current cold spell .........
I've got a bucket of water which I use as my "ice test"- it sits beside the garage, if it's iced up in the morning, ride careful. Except this morning I no longer have a bucket, I have a collection of plastic shards and a massive ice cube.
