Phone calls, tracing or blocking

Just had a prank call from someone, number was withheld, is there any way I can trace the call? If its from a landline then a quiet word may be in order.

Failing that then can you block calls from withheld numbers?

We're on telewest

Can't you report the incident to your line supplier? Give them an idea of the time of the call etc? I think they then get directly in contact with Old Bill as these situation are not viewed very lightly.

N.B. That is how it sort of worked before I left the U.K. anyway. My info could well be somewhat out of date.

Not really worth the effort of the old bill, it wasn't particularly malicious

Its very hard even for the police to put a locate trace on call or a number its needs high up authority and also cost quite a bit money. If it was too carry on, its an offence.

You can have your phone set, not to recieve withheld numbers. Also regestier your phone with the TPS, there is a web site for it as well. What it does is stop tele maraketing companies calling you, they really annoy me they call as I have just got to sleep, about to eat ect.

Give that ago first, if it doesn't work then I'll have a think, but if was to carry reporting to your provider and the police is the next step, hope it stops. Thunder

Whilst you may not be able to see the number, the telephone company may well see it. There was a feature I was working on many moons ago for call trace, after receiving the unwanted call you could enter a short *xx# code where the exchange would log the number, although you could not see the number the information from the exchange could be passed to the police. Certainly as has been stated you can block with held calls. Call up the telephone company.

At one time I was plagued with nuisance calls... I contacted my service provider and the result was that if anybody tried to ring me from a withheld number the call was directed to the operator and the caller had to provide their name and number before the call was forwarded. Might be worth a try but not worth the effort if its a one off prank call
