Yep, got my tyre fixed ok, once again the Soho Massive (in particular Bear, Jambo and Sid Squid) came to the rescue and after the use of a can of air from Jambo, a trip to another garage and a lift back from Sid Squid (the infamous "Sid Squid Pillion on your own bike" ride) all was good, except that loads of people had left. Still, a trip up to Essential Rubber this morning, and £20 has me good as new. Yep, was a good day. |
Re: The Ace!
Brilliant, I was a tad worried you would be stuck for a while at that esso station!
I want a pillion ride with sid squid experiance Its my birthday in may..? Matt |
Re: The Ace!
It was great to meet people yesterday. I didn't spend as much time as I should have socialising with the Org, as I met a mate who I haven't seen for a few months.
His name's Terry and he's a classic bike nut who's being going to the Ace since 1958. Yesterday he was telling a lot of great stories about the Ace in the rocker days of the 60's. The Ace website used to have a photo of him there in the late 60's, but it seems to have gone now. He's worth getting to know as he has some of the most bizarre biking stories I've ever heard. Like the time (in the early 80's IIRC) when he did his own Long Way Round. He was selling Russian bikes and rode a Cossack or Ural (can't remember which) from Russia to the US. On his own and back in the days of the Cold War. Some of these stories are pretty hard to believe, but I've seen his scrap book of newspaper cuttings and articles about the journey, when I've stayed over at his cottage. I've often crashed over in his living room next to a lovely 1928 Indian that he restored (and often a couple of old British bikes too). He has more bikes than I can keep track of, as he has a workshop full too. So if you're at the Ace and see the guy with the bushy white beard, who I was chatting to, go up and say hello to him. You'll be guaranteed to hear some strange tales. Next time, I'll try to chat to the Orgers a bit more. It was great to meet people, as I really don't get out to meet-ups often enough. On a worse note, I started to feel ill after I got home and couldn't sleep at all last night. Went to the doc this morning and have been diagnosed with a gastric virus :( |
Re: The Ace!
Oh no, thats bad. Is it a tummy bug sort of thing? Get well soon. I worry a bit about getting ill, last time i was ill i panicked as i couldnt catch my breath easily, which made my panicking worse :-s
Lotsa cool older bikes yesterday, all with gear shiftes on the wrong side!!! Matt |
