brakes seized......... a bit
not touched the bike for a month or 2, but just took him out for a spin, it was most pleasing.
anywho........ the brakes had siezed on a bit, it was a bit hard to push it out of thr garage. it was ok riding it, so whats the best thing to do? spray them with that brake cleaner stuff? or just leave them? |
Re: brakes seized......... a bit
The 'best' thing to do might be strip and rebuild, but that will be time consuming.
Personally i like your quick/easy method. :) |

Hi guys, we've had a similar thread covering this recently;
http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=103232 top tip, get some Castrol Red Rubber Grease in there next time you service them. Mike |
Re: brakes seized......... a bit
My brakes were REALLY stiff after the winter break. I rode the bike 60 miles and now they are really loose again. That, sir, is the quickest fix. I am intending on taking off the calipers and cleaning them properly soon though.

Re: brakes seized......... a bit
Don't spray them with brake cleaner, it's just for braking surfaces (discs and pads) NOT for cleaning brakes themselves (Which is damn confusing if you ask me!). It's a solvent and will attack the seals in your brakes, making the problem worse rather than better. Best bet is to strip them down, examine and replace the seals if necessary (so I've been told. Speaking from a position of no knowledge but having chatted with Monsiuer Squid about the same problem with my Kwak!)

Re: brakes seized......... a bit
I think that's why i have had to replace 2 discs for my MOT one month after storing my bike for a week covered in road salt over Christmas & then just riding it.

Bear, that could be the best info Ive heard all week - i didnt know that "brake cleaner" was different to stuff you clean calipers with? What do I need for that?? |
Re: brakes seized......... a bit
Bear, where were you yesterday when I was spraying my sticking front discs with brake cleaner?
Now I've got solvent-attacks-seals anxiety... (It's a real illness with medicine and doctors and everything.) |
