Argh one of my discs is warped.
The garage repaired my bike after my off and returned it to me but last week a noticed an issue with the rviets on my disc. They picked it up again today and turns out my disc is warped. So it would seem that they didn't spot this issue first time round. I rode the bike for about 1'000 miles but then the disc problem occured last week. I am 100% sure that this problem has come about from the initial accident as it's the same side that I hit the car on. Thing is the garage are now saying that they will not replace the discs as I have ridden a considerable distance and anythnig could have happened to the bike in that time. They said they have straightened the disc and flattened the rivets so that it all now lines up but is this safe? Why did they carry out this work if they thought they we're not responisble anyway? A guy at work seems to think I should replace the discs.
Help, advice please. :( |
Re: Argh one of my discs is warped.
Take it to a bike MOT place to see if it would pass the brake test (should be free)
I don't think they would so something unsafe so if it's now straight I would be happy IMO. |
Re: Argh one of my discs is warped.
I would be wary of a "straightened" disk, it is such an important item that no risk is acceptable IMO.

Obviously it would be best to get a brand new disc as a result of the accident, but if that approach has been tried and failed, I personally wouldn't be putting my hand in my pocket to buy a brand new disc, and who's to say a second hand disc off ebay would be any better than what you've got? |
Re: Argh one of my discs is warped.
Well it is straight and seems to works fine. Insurance company won't replace the discs so I think I will do this myself. Going to get some nice wavy ones made up from all bike engineering, about £100 per disc and £50 for the rear disc. To be honest as I've done 22'000 on the bike now the discs could do with replacing soon anyway. I'm just a bit miffed that the repair shop (Altamura in Camberely) missed this and are blaming me. Twits. Shame really as everything else they did was perfect.

Fair enough, if you're getting something better for your money. yeah shame.
Should still be worth trying to get the garage or insurance company to make a contribution then, especially if you are going to end up with a receipt proving you had them replaced. |
