In Memorandum
I guess I've been needing to write this for a while, but haven't really been able to without running the risk of blubbing like a girl and possibly then shorting out my laptop.
After nearly thirteen years, that have included ten jobs, four house moves, three different towns, three berievements (two family, one friend), the endings of two long term relashionships, one redundancy, two rabbits arriving - one leaving and being ultimately confused by the existence of a tortoise... ... my best friend, my soul, the very beat of my heart, died at 7.20pm, 23rd Jan. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P100017170.jpg A brief fight against cancer, that apart from a loss of appetite, was undertaken in the best of spirits. Like his whole life really. His last meal was a Ketucky Fried Chicken 'two-piece' the evening before... with chips. Once we had got back home from the vet's, my housemate (who had been in Kodo's life for nearly ten years, and therefore also blubbed like a big girl) and I phoned for pizza. We didn't feel like eating, let alone actually cooking. The empty box was then put on the living room floor - we stared at it - I hadn't been able to put a pizza box on the floor for nearly thirteen years.:( http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../Kodo/Envy.jpg Over the following days the TV had to be left almost permanently on - the house was too quite, and we both started to notice all those thousands of little accomodations you make where there's a dog around. Kitchen bin on the countertop. No used tissues in the waste-paper basket. Arrangements made to work around meal-times. I didn't actually have to open the back door for almost five days. There was a new found sense of freedom - but its wasn't welcome - it loomed. For a small dog he sure left a hell of a big hole. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P100015320.jpg Now if wishes were horses, beggars would ride. But when friends conspire, wishes can sometimes be dogs instead. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P100054820.jpg Meet Spider - small, black and scuttles along skirting boards. ;) He's got big shoes to fill, and I know the fit isn't going to be perfect. There will always be gaps, but he already has personality enough to make his own way. Even so - they both chose the same spot on the sofa. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P100013020.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P100054520.jpg |
Re: In Memorandum
Sorry to hear of your loss K, I know it leaves an unfillable whole in your life when you lose a loved friend.
And congratulations on the new addition. I'm sure he'll find new and interesting ways to catch you out ;) |
Re: In Memorandum
Hi K , really sorry for your loss, there,s not much you can say when you lose a loved one, thing is, the new pup will never be the same as the old one, which is good really cos you get to make a new friend without forgetting the old one.
Good luck |
Re: In Memorandum
Awww, he was absolutely beautiful. I can't imagine, my cocker spaniel, Indie, is four years old, and I'm already dreading the day I lose him. I work in a vets and sadly we have to deal with loss a lot, and I cry nearly every time.
Your new addition is just beautiful, I wish you many happy years together. |
Re: In Memorandum
K hunni, deepest sympathy for your loss. It is so hard to lose a friend who loves you whatever happens, is steadfast in adversity and a comfort in sadness.
Your tribute was very moving, RIP little fella. The new little friend looks like a bundle of fun and love. Have a happy life together. :D |

Re: In Memorandum
Sorry to hear of your loss. I remember when our dog passed away (english setter) she left a big whole, the house felt empty and quiet for months :smt089. Never really felt getting a dog myself after that but if I ever do, it will always be a spaniel . The new chap looks great, I'm sure he'll fit in just fine.

Re: In Memorandum
Sorry to hear about Kodo K.
The hardest part is realising that the gap that is left is one that no other dog can ever fill 100% Your pictures bring back memories of Charlie, who passed away 10th May 2006 under very similar circumstances to Kodo, though he didn't have the KFC deal: http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/7624/houndzk8.jpg May they both rest in peace. Good luck with Spider, I hope you have many happy years to come. |
