Anyone made a will ?
 

I was just wondering if anyone had made out a will ? been considering it for a while now just no too sure of the best way of going about it, any tips ?

Don't leave the money to a dog's or cat's home, leave all unpaid bills to your ex-wife.

The advice I was given was "Don't DIY". Technically you can, but the biggest headaches are caused by ambiguous instructions. Keep it simple if possible, be very specific e.g. don't say "X pounds to go to Cancer Research", you should specify actual charities with a charity number.

Basic will writing isn't expensive, just get it done. Simple one is better than none.

My biggest beef is that I don't want Gordon F.Brown (we know what the F stands for) to have any more than absolutely necessary, so you can word it that up to your IHT allowance goes to named individuals, after that it goes to named charities (not taxed).

I'm not absolutely sure what's happened regarding the transfer of allowances between spouses announced last year, but check out exactly what the implications are. It used to be crucial to have property held as tenants-in-common rather than joint-tenants, meaning you each own half of every item not half of the items each (subtle difference but very important). This may have all changed of course!

Be aware of what you can give away while you're living, yearly allowance plus 7-year stuff, and remember the taxman gets first dibs anyway.

Yes, and adjusted it yesterday, with WRC63 & MrsWRC63 as witnesses...

possibly, I was referred to a consultant neurosurgeon in Jan, that was a bit of a wake up call I can tell ya. Everything is ok though, but it just really made me think about whats round the corner thats all.

I s'pose I really ought to end the debating and get round to making one...

... I could dissapoint them all and insist that they get buried/cremated/mummified/etc with me. ;)

I have left all my 'assets' to my brother. It least that means i know they will be used(wasted), as opposd to leaving them to my dad who would just invest/keep them.
