Recommend me some running shoes
 

Im currently in the market for a new pair of running shoes, Im after something that will be suitable for between 5 miles and marathon training. I have a fairly neutral motion and am looking for a reasonably lightweight and well cushioned trainer at a reasonable price. Anyone use and can recommend anything?

M&M direct have some good deals on, but your probally best trying them on, i got a pair of mizuru(?) and i hated them,

Currently on NIKE AIR Pegasus, quite good.

I've got Asics gel cumulus which are for neutral runners. I haven't had any problems with them but I haven't done any long distances. The website says that they are ideal for high mileage runners and the bloke in the shop said that they would be fine for a marathon.

When I was doing the Great North Runs back in the early eighties I used Nike, all others were too wide fitting, later switched to Reebok and have had same for last 20 years and can't falt them. No idea which model i have now but still Reebok.

Just about all brands including Hitech will provide sufficient support and cushion its more of a case of finding a pair that fits you well. I prefer a wide heel.

Main difference between brands will be the actual fitting and how long they will last. As I say Reebok have always served me well and very durable and as long as the basics are there I go for the cheapest.

Etonic were always comfortable. I tend to like Reebok now as it is a good fit for my foot. Classics (non all leather versions) are very supportive.

That'd be the brand that keeps getting editors choice etc in a load of running mags.

Been running in them for years now and can't fault 'em. Two half marathons, three 10ks, countless 5ks and all the associated training. Just buy your shoes from a decent RUNNING SHOP and not a shop that sells running shoes. That'll make all the difference. They'll be interested in finding you the right shoe and not selling you any particular make or model.

the best brands out there are.... asics, mizuno, new balance and saucony. nike, addidas and reebok are ****ING RUBBISH!! i would strongly advise against them as everyone that i have known personally to buy any and use them for running have ended up in pain as a result. you're paying for the brand name rather than the technology and cushoning in them.

in the independant sports shop i work in we only sell asics, mizuno and new balance as we believe these are the best three shoe brands currently. it's very much a case of how much you're willing to spend, but i would recomend that if you're doing the marathon then it's definately worth spending ?70 plus!! take your time with it, try on loads of pairs in brands and sizes (different brands come up different sizes!!) and see which ones are most comfortable. if you can go to a shop that does 'gait analysis'. as here they will be able to tell you what type of shoe you need ie. a neutral or pronation support shoe (most likely as 80% of people do pronate). and lastly don't go to somewhere like jjb, jd or sports soccer etc as they won't have a clue what they're talking about, as they don't get trained about the shoes.

Seriously though, sounds like you are going to be doing serious running, best thing to do is get yourself to a specialist shop for a proper fitting, it's the only way ... you could always take the p1ss and get them to select the correct shoe for you and then walk out (mentally noting make/model/size) and see if you can get them off the net ... but to be honest, I don't mind paying that little bit more to get the personal service ... and to be honest, but the time you pay postage, the 'net' deals become less attractive ...

Like hovi' I like my saucony 8) ... but would have bought whichever ones they thought were best for me ... regardelss of make and semi-regardless of price ...
