Good idea.
Everyone now should have ICE contacts on their mobiles, but the extra info is good. |

I very much doubt the paramedics will be carrying laptops with the decoding software

Re: USB digital dogtag which carries 'In Case of Emergency' information - "U-Tag"
Why not just wear a standard dog tag, which most of this info can be put on? Also it will easy to access, how are you meant to access this in the field will it work ems system? Just a though, I would just wear dog tags with most of that info on them, besides you will be with your bike I would guess most folks have a mobile phone, if you have a driving licence that should be enough to get you all the help you need. Lets hope no one does thought.

Re: USB digital dogtag which carries 'In Case of Emergency' information - "U-Tag"
hmmm it is a bit a.r.s.e about face come to think of it.
"This man is seriously injured, hang on a minute, I'll get my laptop out" old school dogtags make much more sense... if you're into that kind of thing. I personally think we should all be microchipped at birth and have our dna stored on a DVLA public computer. Then all the worlds problems would disapear... |

All that palava is all very well, and may be useful some time after the "event"but I can promise you that if you are in such a bad way that you need someone to extract this information, they actually have plenty of other things to do.Such as trying to stop you dying.:(

Re: USB digital dogtag which carries 'In Case of Emergency' information - "U-Tag"
Even the dogtag type get ignored by emergency services at the outset as unless you can talk to them they cannot be 100% sure its your tag, they would probably notice it though and if it had a mention of something specific, eg diabetes, they may be able to act on it but it would still be 100% better than a USB tag

Re: USB digital dogtag which carries 'In Case of Emergency' information - "U-Tag"
If you do have specific medical problems then think about getting a MedicAlert bracelet or necklace because they get spotted during the primary and secondary surveys in the Resus room. I can't have an MRI scan because of a metal implant so I always have my bracelet on in case I crash and some overly keen doc sends me to the wrong scanner. The nice thing is that it has a contact telephone number on so they can phone the database to get your name, medical information and next of kin details.

IMHO anyone who wears dog tags, who isn't in the military, deserves to be mocked. :)
