Scottoiler Disaster!!
Doh! This will teach me to fill my scottoiler in a hurry. Did not refit the connection to the Lubetube reservoir correctly. The result is the area under my seat has been flooded with oil :(. Worse it has leaked all over the rear tyre :smt073I have now cleaned up all the excess oil and will refit everything correctly later.
My problem is cleaning the oil from the rear tyre. Any tips for cleaning the oil off the tyre? I was thinking of GUNK sprayed on and a scrubbing brush to remove the oil, then a VERY sedate ride to scrub the tyre again. Bloody hell I'm glad I decided to wash it and not just go for a ride! :reaper: |

Blinking Heck LP.
Close one indeed.[-o< That is my one major concern with Scotties. All that oil just itching to get on the tyre and spit you off. Can't give you any cleaning tips, the little one is asleep.:) |
Re: Scottoiler Disaster!!
I know Pete, but this is the first problem I had of this kind since I started riding with a Scotty over 10 years ago. This particular one has 7000 trouble free miles. It was definitely user error (i.e. Numpty #1 again - me) not making the connections properly, nothing wrong with the scottoiler.

Re: Scottoiler Disaster!!
I filled mine up once and I had to prime it to get the oil flowing again. I'm sure you can guess the rest....
Yep Oil all over the place and an empty scotoiler... Luckypants. I reckon gunk would be OK, IIRC the scotoiler is water soluable so I would have thought muc off or something similar would be OK to get it off with to. |
Re: Scottoiler Disaster!!
Glad it's not just me then. Pete, on the rideout last weekend I said it was sippery coming over..didn't help that I unloaded my scottoiler over the rear tyre by leaving it on prime!!

I'm not asleep, LP, lies and calumny:D
Hot water with some washing up liquid should do the trick if you don't have any Muc off as Fizzwheel suggested. |
