Puncture repair
 

Yup- I've got a puncture in the back tyre. Not sure how big it is- pumped up from flat this morning, when I got into the office, I found where it's venting- seems like a very small hole, possibly in the tread.

I'm going to get some canned tyre repair tonight- will I also need to get it plugged, or should I see how it goes for a day or two?

Sorry to hear that. I know the pain. I got a BEAST of a puncture last week, in my back tyre about 50mm off centre. Had to shop around but found a tyre repair place that Vulcanised the puncture. Apparently its guaranteed up to 150mph! Not that my bike does that, but so far so good and it only cost me 20 squid.

Don't bother with canned tyre repair. It is ****ing shi'ite and a complete waste of money.

Get it plugged.

Get it plugged by somebody who knows what they're doing
The can stuff is a get you home emergency measure

Don't forget to let the guys in the tyre place know you have used the can, otherwise you'll spoil their day when they come to remove the tyre :grin:

Cheers guys- I'll call Guildford Tyres at lunchtime. I'll also see about getting the front tyre put around the right way (Chertsey Tyres appear to have b*llsed that one up last March- only just spotted it the other week when DD helped me sort my brakes out).

Guildford won't do it, but Kingston Tyre Services will- bingo. And they're gonna sort the front out too.

Apparently they'll vulcanise it an guarantee the tyre up to 180mph. Does mean my bike will go faster now? ;D

Well- the nice man at Kingston Tyres looked at my tyres and kindly pointed out how sh*gged they are, while wondering how they got through the MOT with a front tyre on backwards and the wear on them. Though that was in December, so there's been a few 'undred miles on them since.

So I now have a shiny new pair of BT020's to wear in and a large hole in the bank balance- thankfully it's payday. And at least I've not worn them to thread this time!!!

I'd forgotten how nice and round new tyres feel- it's that almost disconcerting falling feeling all over again. Nice.

I feel a quick trip to Boxhill and back tonight to scrub the little lovelies in. And get some wear on the tyres. ;)

Get it plugged ASAP if you lose pressure when riding it will seriously affect handling. I wouldn't use any stuff if you can help it in case it messes up the tyre.

I got a 6mm masonry drill bit (full length) through tread of wine a few weeks back. Plugged by RAC to get me home (max 40mph :smt015)then done by the pro's good as new £25.
