Caliper Query
I own a curvy (2000 model) and need new calipers. Iv'e seen some on ebay taken from a K4 SV650s.
Has there been any change in the front brakes at all over the years and will they fit and work properly? It is quite urgent as im starting a new job and need the bike running! They're tokito calipers and look exactly the same as what i already have. Thanks |

Re: Caliper Query
the calipers are the same on all sv's (650) and just as bad on the later bikes, but at least newer

Re: Caliper Query
What's wrong with your calipers?

Re: Caliper Query
again why do you need new ones cant you just rebuild them?

Re: Caliper Query
My bikes been sat in the garage for the last 8 months due to rushing an oil and filter change, not good. just got round to sorting it out and the seals have gone on the calipers. I've never overhauled brakes before and thought i'd drain the hoses and get them off! now it means filling them back up to get the pistons out or finding someone with a compressor. Im starting a new job soon so need it back on the road asap, I was going to try and sort them but while looking on ebay i saw some and as they were only £55 and in full working order thought it would be easier. I also have a friend who works at a spray shop so thought about getting the old ones overhauled, swapping them back round and getting the new ones sprayed.

Re: Caliper Query
A fair idea, but remember chances are eBay's "full working order" equates to "well the pistons move ... sortof ... outwards maybe .."

Re: Caliper Query
Yeah, likely just as quick to pop them around to a local garage or tyre fitter to have them pop the pistons out for you, then service the calipers and pop new seals in.
As Yorkie says you may end up having to service the new ones anyway. I had the same problem a little while ago and I bought a compressor as a result! Only £60 from Screwfix at the moment ;-) |
Re: Caliper Query
Yea. I've been lucky on ebay so far no probs. Although this is the first time i've bought something off ebay and relying on it being as they say. Im off down to a garage in a bit to pick up some parts, so i'll probably take the old calipers along to have the pistons out just in case.
Does anyone know how much new seals are likely to be roughly? I have thought about getting a compressor too. would be very handy. £60 aint bad either. that'll be one for next payday |
