Tonight is THE night

The Sv is getting a full service. Oil, filter, air filter, plugs, brakes, brake fluid.

I am quite happy about this as:
A) I am at cadwell Park on Monday

And (more importantly)

B) I am taking it to a colleagues house, who is very handy with the spanners. So I will be learning some spannering skills! :):):)

So, I am quite excited.

However, I have a question. Is there anything quirky to the SV that I should be aware of? My colleague has a collection of bikes, mainly classics, but he also has a 916 and FJR1300 (these he doesn't service himself).

When I bought all the parts, I was advised that the brake pad shape is not identical on both sides. Is that correct?

Also, according to the workshop manual I have, you have to move the radiator to get to the front cylinder spark plug. Is this correct? Anything I should know?

Apologies if this should go somewhere else, but I could do with a few responses today if there is anything I really should know.

Many thanks in advance .org. :notworthy:

This is correct, you can't fir the pads in the wrong caliper so don't worrry about that!

Just remove the lower radiator mount bolt and loosen the upper two a bit and gently swing the radiator forward, this will give you enough room.

Learn as much as you can by watching your colleague, don't be afraid to ask any questions either!

Go easy when tightening the plugs, they really dont go in that tight at all.

Check the oil level again after its run. You'll likely have to give it a top up.

Brakes are the big deal I think, if you're only flushing them through with new fluid then its no problem. If you;re stripping and refilling then its a little trickier, its not rocket science though, just watch and you'll pick it up.

Well, had an excellent night last night.
The spark plug behind the radiator is bloomin' tricky though!

Doing the brakes tonight, as didn't have as much time as we would like. Plus the screws need drilling out of the brake cylinder. :(

Looking forward to learning about the brakes!! :)

Yeah, just been on to my local dealer, they have some in stock (thank goodness) at a grand total of 50p each!

Also, forgot to post before....but apart from the nechanics of the bike, I feel I also learned alot about looking at the general condition. Things like (ahem) rounded off allen bolts, looking for missing screws, that sort of thing.

So if you were looking at buying a second hand bike, I think I would now look at this sort of thing, as well as looking at service history, chain, sprockets etc.

You can't buy experience.....but I am learning.
