Who needs a compressor ..

Re: Who needs a compressor ..
pretty cool that, I have seen that done for real and it makes a propper pop, although the guy that did it when I was watching just put his lighter on the type to pop it back on. oh and the wheel was still on the truck at the time.

Re: Who needs a compressor ..
What happened at the end? Looks like he cut it just before the wheel popped out.

Re: Who needs a compressor ..
The flames burn inside the tyre sucking the air out so you need to attach a compressor really quickly once it's mounted!

If you don't the rapid expansion puts the tyre on the rim, then the cooling and contraction takes it back off again! ;) (i.e. if you don't feed it air at the same time to compensate). The expansion is so rapid having the valve out on ignition doesn't mater, but it allows enough air back in during the slower cooling/contraction phase so the tyre doesn't get sucked back off the rim. 8) When you analyse what is happening here. On a bike tyre there isn't that much volume in the tyre as they are only ikle tyres. So there is not really much 'after burn' as all the oxygen is used in the initial explosion .. but in a big old car tyre like that, not all the oxygen is taken up in the initial explosion! .. hence it fattens like that ... had he put more fuel in (expelling the air/increasing fuel/air ratio) it would not have had afterburn ... also if he had taken the valve out, the extra expanding air would have had somewhere to go!! ;) |
Re: Who needs a compressor ..
I used to play with "spud guns" and other contraptions quite a bit ... and you don't need much fuel at all.
