It's all about good glass.
Get a canon though ;) |
Re: Nikon D60 SLR with VR Lense
Another cannon lover? The 400D is let down by a less than great lense apparently...

Re: Nikon D60 SLR with VR Lense
Seems like a good price to me.
You could go to jessops and handle both the Canon & Nikon, and see what feels right to you, both very capable camera's by all accounts. |
Re: Nikon D60 SLR with VR Lense
Many reports on the cannon state that the lense is a bit of a let down; is it really that bad? Similar reportings also suggest the nikon lenses are better (hence why I'm heavily interested in the nikon)

Re: Nikon D60 SLR with VR Lense
I have literally just ordered one!
It is on a par with the canon which is a very good body, but really let down by the lens. TBH, at this price point, all cameras a soooo similar it's ridicluous to say "this is much better than that" but the quality of the lens makes the difference. However, the Sony 350 has just received glowing reviews and has live view and 14 meg pix. Bit more cash though. I would agree with ukgooner and go and handle them before buying, the Canon feels lesh "posh" that the Nikon, but then again, I've always had Nikons. And no, I can't find a better price either! |
Re: Nikon D60 SLR with VR Lense
The Kit lens in those bundles are usually OK, but its a bit of a general purpose Lens, but its good enough to get you started, so I wouldnt worry to much about that IMHO.
With Lenses you'll find after a while if you get really into it you'll end up buying specific lenses that are purpose built for what you are taking pictures of. So again dont worry to much about the kit lens. Nikon or Cannon you are'nt going to be disappointed with IMHO. So as has been suggested go into Jessops or somewhere and handle both and see which you like the feel of. Personally I thought that the colour depth and warmth of colours was superior on the Nikon over the Cannon, hence why I have a Nikon. You'll want a decent memory card that has plenty of storage and that has a good read / write speed especially if you have the shutter mode set to continuous. So dont forget to factor that in as well. Re: Nikon D60 SLR with VR Lense
Canon, Nikon, both good. You can always change the kit lens. In the past the kit Nikon has been arguably better than the oposition but weather you would be able to tell is another matter entirely.
Live view, personally I don't see the point on an SLR, the viewfinder will give you a far sharper image to frame by. Its a marketing thing IMHO. Personally I think Nikon has the better build quality and feels better in the hand. Canon tends to have the better feature set and in that respect may be better value for money. Yes I may be a tad biased. I now use a D80 (same sensor as the D60 I think) and a D70 that was repaired by Nikon free of charge 2 years after the warranty had expired following heavy use in all weathers. In a nut shell, try em, you'll not be dissapointed by either. Remember though that the number of pixels isn't everything, the bottle on the front and the user are more important. Have fun deciding. |
