Urgent - European Breakdown

My mate has broken down in France on a *** 1150 GS. Whats the best way to go about getting it back to the country. I thought most bike insurance covered European trips for 30 days...Is that just accidents?

Or would he be better going to a stealer over there and getting it sorted?

Was looking on net for a one of Breakdown service but can't find anything...That would be his preffered option.

Thank you for any help oh mighty orgers

Plowsie,

Give these guys a call: http://www.firstcallmotorbreakdown.co.uk/european.cfm

Expect a charge for requiring the service immediately. A phone call to ask never hurts though.

Insurance cover is just that. Not breakdown or accident recovery.

His best bet, especially as it's a Beemer, is to find a local dealer, or indeed any mechanic. Most probably cheaper to get fixed abroad anyway.

Most will cover you for break down recovery but you have to inform them before you go, some insurance companys will only insure you abroad if you advise them before leaving.

Surely that's only if you have breakdown recovery through the insurance company in the first place though DD isn't it?

yup EU cover and EU bd are 2 diff things, your covered to RIDE it the EU for between 30-90 (depends on insurance co) on most policys-thats FREE.

EU breakdown cover is usually an extra cost, and not usually included in the policy unless you asked/paid for it to be so.

Oh yeah... oop's...thanks Pete! But for a small charge EU breakdown can be added, cost me 11 quid in 2003 and since then I have made sure it was part of my policy.
