Where to go?

Polite answers only please!

I'm coming up to Harrogate for a week on the 14th July for a week of physio and drinking at the Police Convalescent Home. Apparently, they can do wonderous things for my knee.

Now. The plan is to go on the bike (obviously) and explore the area a bit better than I usually do, ie, Ripon, Masham, Leyburn etc.

Can I have some ideas from the locals about what roads are good or bad? Plus if anyone can bare to be seen out with the cops, fancy a ride?

Pete.

Pete have you ever ridden around the North York moors (Pickering, Helmsley, Blakey Rigg, Whitby etc) ? There are some nice roads out there, I'll make up a google map if you want and PM you a link. I may be about that week for evening rides if you'd like. Also you could visit Squires on a Wednesday, a big biker meet if you've never been before.

Other good roads are Yarm-Scorton -Richmond-Leyburn. And plenty of smaller back roads that are suited to the SV.

Some of the Leeds lot may have suggestions too, the road to Otley from Menwith hill is quite good too and very near Harrogate (or Harrogbue if you use predictive text).

This is a nice scenic, twisty 80 mile round route from Harrogate that I sometimes take. I'll join you for a rideout if I'm not on call for work that week, don't matter to me whether you're a copper or not, everybody's gotta have a job to pay the bills.

Pete, i dunno if you want to let me know a few more details about the convalescent home, as Im thinking about this for my physio when I can start on it. Did you pay monthly subs or have you paid the lump sum?

I'm sure we could try and organise a few rideouts - will be the peak of summer and there's tonnes of routes around north yorkshire which I've yet to explore myself. If you've never been to squires on a wednesday night (the weekly meeting night for lots of bikes) it's definitely worth going to meet some of the org, a burger and some banter. Oh and there's some cracking bikes there too.

We'll have to start a "Show BluePete what proper roads are" thread and everyone can suggest routes for a medium sized rideout maybe?

Not allowed to use the bike, so plodding up in the car. I'll do my best to be at Squires on Wednesday. If anyone wants to meet up, giz a ring, 0789 6665341.
