mini mirrors are they dangerous
 

i want to get rid of my big mirrors and was thinking about the mini mirrors that go on the end of the handle bars , are they ok to use do you get a good view, is there any+ or any -

last summer, my bike fell over on a touring holiday with my dad, nearside mirror snapped clean off (hit the cerb when it was parked)

i was in the highlands so there was no way to get a replacment so found these in a bikeshop in aviemore and i hated them.

i felt they are slightly distorted and wider than standard (as attach to the bars) i also felt you look down at them so your view is away from the road, whilst standard mirror are in your view when looking at the road (if that make sense?)

was thinking about getting these too, my n/s mirror seems to vibrate like the pivot is worn plus the cover for the bike would cover the front wheel a bit better.

Would also like to hear some feedback.

I've been running around unfaired for a while, just to see what it's like... I was using Cateye Racing barend mirrors from Halfords, I quite like them, you can see a lot in them. But the position's not so good, I feel the same as Scottishrawker, they're further away and it takes longer to get info (I think that because the standard ones are always more in your field of vision you can take in the info faster). But that does get much better with practice. Also, most fixed bar end mirors are pretty wide, which is a problem if you filter in tight gaps. These ones are plastic so you can pop them in, and if you do catch them they either push in, or snap off.

I prefer the standard curvy S model mirrors... But then, they're s*** hot.

The king of the bar end mirrors is the LSL Lanesplit Hindsight, I got one of those cheap off Ebay and it's incredible... The whole thing's springloaded like a curvy S model's mirrors so they're dead easy to pop in and out (they reset to teh same position so you don't need to readjust them). They're slightly convex so you get a really wide rear view- very small blindspots- but not too over the top with it as many are, so it's still easy to read. But they're very expensive. Still, they're what I'd get, they're just superb. I might refit mine even with the fairing, as a blindspot mirror. Then again it'd end up looking like a mod's scooter :D
